View Full Version : Ron and Fez are pissed

The show was hilarious when Ron and Fez were geniuinely pissed at management. I wish they would lash out, it would be therapeutic.
The other night's show was irritating with Crazy Jen and the BIT where Wonderboy pretended to be a jerk and R&F pretended to argue with him. I thought she was banned ? This arrgument annoyed me the same way as when R&F argue about Art with Wonderboy. It's the only type of thing that comes off "fake" on the show.
How come no shout outs to O&A during the Instant Poll ? Is there a gag order on mentioning them on WJFK ?

WB may have pretended to be a jerk, but I don't call what R+F do pretend. The show got de-railed, there was no going back to the former subject, whatever it was, so, what to do? Go with it. If WB wants to start in on Jen and Mikey D, then R+F sounded like they were more then happy enough to give him enough rope to hang himself.
It may have turned into a bit, but I doubt on their schedule it said 'at this time Crazy Jen calls, and WB does a freudian slip and calls her Mikey D, and then we'll go down a list of names...'.
Or maybe it's a total bit. Beats me.

More Importantly;
Hey WJFucking K Management,
If you want to drive the Ron and Fez show into the ground, just keep doing exactly what you've been doing to support the show; NOTHING.
I know they take more then two seconds to get used to so their ratings books arent gonna skyrocket instantly, but where's the support?
You have them doing two shows a day. Give them a fucking shift. A real one. One of the drives, or middays. Take a chance that people actually might want to hear something other then Stern. Amazingly, some people do.
Cutting off Stern would have resulted in the horrific: Instead of Stern playing on 243 stations, he'd be on only 242. For 15 minutes.
But the result instead: All 243 stations carry Stern, and the Ron and Fez show gets fucked.
It's horrific enough that the FCC has let the entire radio industry become two monoliths, and you guys own you own competition now, so just keep eating your own tails. Don't imagine for a moment people might want LIVE, ORIGINAL Programming that actually originates in the Area it is broadcast.
Hiring some talent wouldn't hurt either. Crack open the Vaults and Hire these guys some support. And a real studio. And a music library. Oh Wait, they're Talk! Fuck you. If Ron programmed a music station, he'd have your job now. He'd have the balls to do it original, and stick with it, and so what if someone else reads the fucking copy.
Speaking of copy: Nothing against the Ad people at WJFK, but even to the casual listener, the spots suck; especially when R+F have to do live reads. Fez is a live-read guy. Ron isn't. He can't pretend to be excited about a Shit Promotion. So maybe if someone else has an enthusiastci voice, have them read it. It fucks up the rhythm as it is now.
And hire some LIVE shows for the slots where the Infomercials run. Is this even an option? Are you allowed to act? Christ.
You have one of the funniest, most original radio shows of the last ten years, and you care for it like shit. If you only knew what you were letting slip through your fingers. NY got it. Sadly they got fucked there too. Why can't you get it?
I need a breather.

Thanx hottub, but let me make it clear any 'insights' are my opinions. I don't work for these guys, everything I submit has also been for zip. zero. nada. My enjoyment of the show is enough.
Some might think me and Ron and Fez are real close, that I know inside stuff. Well, guess who wasn't aware that the fastest hour was sometimes not live? I din;t even realize it till it was brought up on-air. Shows how clued in I am. On purpose I don't IM them outside the show. Ever. I used to, but no more. It can be said in an email. In fact, if you hear 'I just got this from Mizzle' it was an email sent during the show. I don't need to be clogging up their shit.
My bits? I send them in blind. If they use them, it's a shock to me. Wisely, most of what I send them they realize isn't funny, or worth airing.
So, any facts gleaned above are just from this listeners ears listening to the show.

Ron and Fez are trying to make Wonderboy in to a hate-able, Al Dukes type of producer. This is not working. I wish they could have drinkning shows again, I know they would be phenomenal.
People who were upset about Wonderboy's treatment of Linae obviously are not familiar with her history with the show.

I believe Stern's contract forces them to run the whole show, but I could be wrong. Of course, if a minute of a show is missing, the CIAholes (old skool Stern) call in and make sure he knows.

Your post was, I'm assuming, still directed at WJFK at this point, right?
So does "NY" refer to WNEW?
When did WNEW ever "get" ANYTHING in terms of treating R&F right?

That probably had more to do with Infinity than WNEW. It looks now like Infinity wanted to retain R&F once they flipped WNEW. Most likely they were kept on WNEW until they were able to shift the Sports Junkies to another station and open up a slot in DC. There was some overlap in which the show was broadcast to both NY and DC so that R&F would not have to start live in DC with almost no established callers & contributers.

The Courtney Hole interview was interesting like a train wreck, and did make national news - as I said before, WJFK should have just pushed The Fastest Hour into O'Reilly, and then replay the first fifteen minutes of O'Reilly at the end of his show, which is Don and Mike replay, at 2pm. Maybe once or twice a year Stern will go that long, and usually it's something that they could have broken away from, but butchering Ron and Fez really was = to taking a dump on them for everything that have done for WJFK.
Mizzle - Great post

The bottom line is: Stern makes the stations money!!!!
Sure, it's annoying if you like Ron and Fez and hate Stern, but Stern is a great lead in for them. Maybe some Stern fans leave the radio on, hear Ron and Fez and stick with them.
My hope is that when Stern leaves the radio, some smart station starts broadcasting Ron and Fez as his replacement, and the boys become really, really big, NY gets them back. And then a giant Mars bug comes to the earth and life as we know it ceases to exist.

Noooooo. [shudder]
And 'They' in 'they got it in NY' meant us, the listeners. Not implying DC listeners don't get it. It's not that DC doesn't get it, it's that WJFK isn't doing the job: to help DC-ers find out Ron and Fez exist.

I don't think Ron and Fez were treated well in NY despite a 6 month reprieve. The fact that they were bounced around 6+ times is enough evidence to support claims of mismanagement. I think the NY sentiment is exactly that, sentiment. I'm not sure about their ratings. We know that they had a decent cult following, which I would think would be enough to warrant them remaining somewhere in NY. With that being said, I've grown to like the RF DC incarnation of the show. The callers are better, and I happen to like Wonderboy's bumbling. I always happened to like the bad producers like Al rather than the good producers like Rory for stupid reasons. I love the derailment. Its so out of the ordinary in a fresh way when the boys attack their producers. Its better than Stern or Imus' feeble formulaic on-air relationships with their staff. Finally, I do agree that WJFK is not helping RF. There are so many legal restrictions and scheduling left in the air that you have to wonder if there is some WJFK resentment of the boy's NY days. Just my opinions.

God bless R&F for not obsessing about the ratings - it gets so old with the other shows and is consistant with Ron's world view on shit like ratings for television and box office for movies not = to good, quality material.
That said...............I believe (and I may be really wrong here) that R&F's ratings were actually worse than Don and Mike's (I know that Ferrell's were half of D&M's and his was supposedly the real money time slot), and entire message boards were devoted 2 years ago to how bad D&M's NY ratings were.
There were a number of big differences, though - D&M were in a more competetive time slot and more was expected (even though their last ratings that came out after they had left WNEW showed they had cracked a 2.0 rating and were finding their listeners) and they had a target on their back.
When R&F re-took over the midday spot in NY, I don't think they were given time to get an accurate rating period before Sex For Sam ruined the fun for everyone.

rnf never talked about ratings, but i do remember ona bringing it up a couple times during afro shows. ona would say congrats on the ratings, and beating krock(alt rock staion) which is what i believe were rnf's main competition/similar listeners.
so i think they were doing good and improving, despite being moved about 4-6 times since they first started on wnew. and then the entire sex for sam thing happened and then they were moved a couple more times.and you know the rest.
its a shame too, b/c i really believe(and i might just be an rnf mark but) if that sex for sam b.s thing didnt happen Wnew could have turned into a ratings powerhouse by now. w rnf syndicated. life sucks.

Sure! Personally, I still prefer the classic NYC shows, but I think the boys have adapted well to the new situation, as only they can. The callers HAVE gotten better. I think the show just needs to finally settle on one timeslot, one four hour period, so the momentum can REALLY kick in. Otherwise, with the split shows, I can't see how they can really "settle in" here. It's unfair to them, and WJFK really needs to make a decision.

I guess so. The callers no longer seem to want to stay on forever.
The fastest hour is really funny; funnier than the regular show. The split shift is killing them in the funny department. The guys need some really funny crazy bits but WJFK seems to be really conservative and tight-assed. Maybe Cherry could come in a get beat some more. I thought that show was freaking hilarious. Especially as an added torture, when Rory sang to her. Funny stuff!

The one thing I really like about the DC callers is there seems to be a real variety to them - maybe only once an hour do you hear one of the regular friends of the show call in (most seem to communicate through Ron through IM).
And you can tell, too, with certain topics how many different kinds of people listen.
Some topics will get the women to call - others will get young people to call up - I notice a lot more African Americans who call the show (not 100% unusual since D&M get a lot of the brothers calling in) - when they did the topic about old children's show hosts, a lot of the older people called . And just when you are willing to throw in the towel and say that all of the area outside of DC is rednecks, suddenly there is a 2 segment part of the show devoted to independent cinema that (with the exception of maybe one call) really stayed on par w/ Ron and Fez's discussion.
Ron and Fez do a unique show which doesn't turn off young people (like Don and Mike), and doesn't turn of older people who think they are pandering to young people (like O&A), and luckily they are tapping into a pretty diverse pocket of listeners and callers here in DC, without resorting to simply their hard core fans.
Are the DC callers as funny as the NY callers - no. And hopefully R&F will be syndicated back into New York where they can mine that angle again.

This was a horribly little sentence. I admit it. I think everyone got my point though. The callers have become much better than when RF first started broadcasting from DC. The show kind of reminds me of the old dot.com days, where the boys were receiving crazy calls out of the blue, and producer screw-ups. You can hear the ghost of Dumpy laughing by the cart-rack. Almost anyway.
I just wish the boys could settle upon a time slot. Like Mojo said, the show needs to continue with the momentum that the show gathers through the course of a show. Mondays' timeframe kills the show practically in mid-action. Same with the power-hour replay at 10. At least it always leaves me wanting more, which is the best way to entertain.

WNEW didn't treat anyone well. Not even O&A. Nobody got any promotion from the station. R&F were treated like shit with all the slot shifts. The listeners were fucked when they took away R&F, despite all the efforts made by people on this board. The on air talent and the audience basically isn't worth shit in their eyes.

What I haven't noticed anyone commenting on is that RonnFez are doing two completely different shows. If things don't work out, they could shop either one to a variety of stations. There are people who enjoy the fastest hour (I picture Dennis Miller fans) but might not like the nighttime show, or might not listen to the radio at night. And there are people who can't listen to the radio during the day, or just don't care about the news, or just like to get effed up and chill. Plus the night-time show depends in part on callers, and you get better callers at night; additionally, a lot of the show regulars, surprisingly enough, have jobs, and can only come on the show at night. New York has a much larger population than the DC area, so it will take a while to build up an equivalent stable of regular callers, visitors, and hangers-on. Plus, the retards who run WJFK, Michael Hughes and Alan Leinwand couldn't promote a show if their jobs depended on it.
