What the hell is this big deal with this word? I'm shocked that so many people consider this "worse" than Fuck. I was talking to some friends about it today and they were like "Yeah, they only thing worse than Fuck is probably Cunt." I also read that it's the only word left that can't be said on British television. What the hell made cunt so much worse than "pussy" or "twat"? I say Fuck is still king.

I like there to be some words that are not part of mainstream conversational language. Words that have a place outside of civil discussion, ones that are "improper" at certain times. Youll notice that as soon as someone starts using those kinds of words, that the dynamic of the conversation has changed to casual, and you lose respect. I understand why some people feel that "everything is ok to say at all times" but understanding it doesnt mean I agree with it. Like Janet Jackson's tit popping out, it would be the same if Bush is a speech let the word "douche bag" slip out when referring to John Kerry; it simply wouldnt be appropriate. In fact, it would bring the whole tone of the seriousness of the process down to a level that would be impossible to dig back out of. Yes, I am all for keeping some words off TV and radio. Yes, I dont think "cunt" should be used. I think it hurts as much as "nigger".

Yes, I dont think "cunt" should be used. I think it hurts as much as "nigger".i wish i was black right now so that i could say, "as a black woman, i'll have you know that they do not hurt equally." but i'm as white as anyone could be, so i'll just say this:

i think that's probably one of the most racially insulting things i've heard in a very long time. as a woman (see, that i can do),i'll have you know that the word "cunt" is not anywhere near as bad as a word like "nigger." when a white person calls a black person a "nigger" they are bringing up years of persecution and discrimination that still exists to this day. it is probably one of the most hurtful things that can be done, ever. calling a woman a "cunt" is derogatory and mean, don't get me wrong, but it does not have the same history and connotation. there are lots of words that could be used in the same context that would insult a woman equally.

i once had a non-jewish person call me a "kike"... i think i'd rather be called a "cunt" once a week than be called that even once. why? because of the history.

even attempting to equate "nigger" with "cunt" is an affront to black people. as a black woman, i am offended.

I think the word has become worse over the years. Either that, or when I was young I didn't know it was considered so offensive. It really is equivilent to calling someone a faggot or a nigger - it's gotten that powerful as a word.

A good friend of mine (female) has a great story has she used it against a woman who almost ran over when she was riding her bike. The woman (who turned out to be local Channel 7 anchor woman, Kathleen Mathews - wife of Chris Mathews) stopped and sneared, and definately heard it.

Interesting this topic came up when it did, because last night they actually used it on an episode of "Arrested Development," and it went out unbleeped!

The father doesn't know the daughter is there at first, and starts off by yelling at his wife that she is a cunt. God I love that show...sigh...
