Kids In Traffic

Lately (I'd say at least the last year anyway), I've noticed this sharp increase in kids who just walk through traffic as if cars are going to stop or not hit them. They will either walk or run right through traffic, chase each other around the lanes while cars go zooming by. Tonight on my way home I saw it again, cars were coming out of the train station with folks scurring to get home and they're all swerving into on-coming traffic and screeching their brakes because these kids just decided to walk across the street while the cars were zipping through.

I've certainly gone across lanes of traffic myself, but never as close as some of these kids come to getting hit by a car. I see it a hell of a lot more often than I used to see it.

And this is "new" to you? These are the exact same kids who will in 15 years (the ones who don't get run over) be the idiot adults who feel the constant need to wander mindlessly into oncoming traffic. I deal w/ both every day. I'd love if I could pad the exterior of my car w/ foam rubber so when one of these fools gets too close, I could knock 'em on their ass. No serious injury, just a little wake up call that "moving cars hurt".

Listen - don't get ME started on THAT!

I worked someplace for two years that attracts a lot of tourist groups, especially school groups in the spring time, and the one fucking thing that seems to entertain them more than any fucking thing on the planet is running up the down escalator, or down the up escalator.

On some days it's just nuts - that's all that's going on when you walk by, as they laugh like mental patients, certain that they are the ones to first think of this.

The newest thing was the kids sitting down on the escalator as they ride up or down.

The only upside is that you can yell at them, which you really can't in society anymore, but if you are a big guy with an ID badge, and you get your voice down to a certain level, they can bounce back and scurry away - giggling, usually, of course, but who cares...you got to yell at teenagers!

You can try explaining to them the dangers - how people really have been injured on the very escalator they are cruising - how a young girl lost a toe, etc, but they don't care.

I really want to make another passive aggressive documentary called "Stupid Teenagers," and really try to shine the spotlight on how dumb kids are. If anyone has any video experience and want to make fun of teens too, let me know - we can do this.

Since they made it the law that the everyone must come to a screeching halt every time a bus stops to let kids get off. Instead of teaching them to look to make sure its safe, its only natural that the little sacks of poisen will assume everyone must stop when they walk in the street.

Back in September, me and skid went up to Cape Cod for a few days. We were driving to the ferryto Martha's Vineyard. We were passing through some small town. We're driving along when all of a sudden a group of school kids just starts walking across the road without looking. Granted, the speed limit was about 25 miles per hour and so it wasn't a problem to stop. But they were taking their sweet time and seemed totally oblivious to us until we honked the horn. Then they turned around and looked at us like a bunch of dumb sheep.

Another time I was driving in Toms River. I went to stop off to get some coffee. There's a girl on a cell phone walking on the shoulder instead of the sidewalk. I'm just about to pull into the store parking lot when she stops right in front of the entrance. I honk the horn and she jumps and yells something at me. ???

I weep for our nation's future.

EDIT: There are about 3 balls in skid's yard. They're all his now. No kid has been brave enough to claim them. They fear the tattoo'd guy with the shaved head.

as i remember on the cape they have the right of way. Something about the cross walks they are painted red or green i am colorblind but as soon as a person steps in it cars are to stop. The first time i went up there we didn't know this either and we almost kiled everybody. We finalily asked someone in town
