This thing is the best, it whistles when its boiling so you dont have to stand over it, and it holds a descent amount of water and is easy to clean. I use the ring that comes with it to keep it slightly above the burner so it doesnt break and have had it for years an am very happy with it. It costs like $7!

I didn't realize that you could buy a tea kettle that DIDN'T whistle when the water was boiling.

I left the lid off of mine once. My cat Angus got his head stuck in it. Funniest god damn scene ever! My roommate and I never laughed so much. So, after we finally got him out, he was so embarrassed he went and pee'd on something of mine.

True story.

Next time, to pay his furry ass back, leave the kettle on when he goes to stick his head in it.

Hrmphhh. I actually thought of that specific one, but I was pretty sure that they'd discontinued it.

Technically, electric kettles don't have whistles, either. Also, the ones Calphalon (who I think makes the above model) makes generally don't have them, either.

Edit: and SR71 was referring to the brandname "Whistler," not all tea kettles.

But Calphalon still makes their whistling tea kettle. They don't make that particular non-whistling one anymore AFAIK!!

No, they don't. They might still have some kicking around a Bed, Bath, and Beyond.

How retarted is it that I've been thinking that I need a new tea kettle but didn't want the same old same old. And here's SR with the timely thread.

That's why I love the R&F board. Always something useful going on.
