I was reminded of the scene from PRIVATE PARTS where the PD had them go to a record in the middle of a bit during Stern's early days.

9.99 a month for XM, 12.99 for Sirius. Both have commercial free music channels. But you get the Monsters on XM.

What will be very interesting is when shows on Infinity stations are no longer allowed to shorten curses. I can see it coming to the point where RnF are no longer allowed to say "F" or "C" on air.

Actually, both Ron & Fez (and I thought Don & Mike) both said they got lists yesterday of words, not just phrases, they can't said and they mentioned that now there are even LETTERS that stand for certain words can't be said! B, C, D, F! They aren't even allowed to come up with clever code words!

It's really going to handcuff all of these shows - I guess everyone will look to Stern to see how the big dog handles it when he gets back from his vacation.

I stand corrected. I heard D&M complaining that there was no real set of rules.

A real list of words they can't use sounds less vague than what they were bitching about. They keep saying (and so does Howard actually) they they are willing to adjust the show for what ever standard FCC or Their company puts out there.

According to what I heard they were told not to have any talk of a sexual or scatalogical nature.

They were also told that they could not put on anything that was "arguably offensive" which is stupid because it's 100% vauge and open to debate.

In the middle of D&M's show they were handed a note (or told, I don't remember) that they could not call people names of body parts i.e. "You're a pussy!", "He's a prick!", "What a dick!"

I guess this list of words came in a bit later, I missed the first 15 mins of the 7:00 pm show last night.

Well it looks like Stern's show isn't affected. He not only started the show talking about his Ass exam and pooing like a water fountain (DC station dumped out of a little of it) , He then starting talking about John being on the Tonight show and almost went a full hour without a commercial.

He did mention the new FCC/Infinity "rules" around 7:45 today. but didn't seem to know too much about it, just that his GM could be fired, and he said he would like to do that.

Well, looks like the only show that has really changed
is the D&M show. Everyone else seems to be saying the same stuff. I'll be listening to D&M at 3:00 to hear their Bullshit (ironic that he was in real trouble for saying "Bullshit"!)

They replayed the first 30 mins or so of the Stern show before R&F.

They dumped Stern twice (probably more than that, but I noticed two dumps) this morning and during the replay they moved the dump letting stuff out that wasn't out before. WTF is going on with "The Button" at WJFK?

They should suspend/fire/ threaten to fire them, not R&F or D&M.

Stern talked at length about how he wants to leave the company; how they now have 3 different delays on him, totalling one and a half minutes (according to Stern's boss, Tom). Stern really didn't seem as worked up as I thought, however, and later - listening to D&M - it was clear. His job is not in danger.

D&M talked about their visit to the lawyer's office at the top of the show, and seemed upbeat about at least now knowing what they could and couldn't do; bad taste was not the same as indecent, is what it comes down to - which basically translates to no talk of sex or farts.

Yeah...they'll be able to do a show now! HA!

The one real telling moment was when they talked about how they didn't want people calling and saying they heard this, or they heard that on other shows.

I think it was Mike who said: "It was made crystal clear to us where we exist on the food chain." And then Don mentioned again that people should not call if they hear stuff on Stern, or on Imus.

Now, while it is true that D&M make as much for WJFK as Stern does, Stern is the biggest fish in the Infinity sea. Also, as Sofaking mentioned, Stern actually has an additional set of ears listening to his show at WJFK, specifically because it is broadcast into Washington DC - home of congress and the FCC, which gets back around to the quandry D&M are in; they are a popular show in the one city in the country that has politicians trying to make a name for themselves by blasting indecent radio - and I repeat again that O&A might have gotten away with a brief suspension had they not been heard in Washington.

Didn't listen much to D&M after the first half hour, but I did listen to most of Stern this AM, and wow...funny, funny, funny shit about his reaction to Jay Leno.

Don and Mike are a joke. I listened to them on WYSP when they started there and they had me as a captive audience at work. Then the show moved, they seemed to be a lot angrier and trying less and the show eventually went away. I think they really see themselves as failures and are resentful and all of this is a desparate attempt to make waves.

This is an interesting time in the broadcast industry. Some feel this is an intrusion on their free speech right, others see it as a natural socitial progression, and others see it as a political stunt for the elections. The bottom line fact is that Ferrall is talented enough to avoid using off color language, an FCC rule set forth 50 years ago. He can make his point without going over the line and creating and indecent broadcast... and he is one of the supporters of cleaner radio broadcasts.

As far as our parent company, Clear Channel, they don't want to take the chance of having it's employees cost them $275,000 per indecent offense case. That's a lot of money, for Jack and Jane who own a radio station in middle Kentucky, or for Clear Channel Communications. Be relieved that there is no person in our company telling him what to say, something I cannot say for others in our industry.

We can play by the rules and still make the best radio in town, just listen.
