Don & Mike did this all throuhout their show as well... i guess it's a protest against WJFK.. and they could also just be protecting their jobs.. as they have said over the past few shows that they can barely speak without violating the "word list" :)

This should explain why they're protesting (http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/viewmessages.cfm/Forum/46/Topic/37001/page/what_are_the_new_things_they_can_t_say_on_the_air_ )

It is kind of funny how Ron will take a request and just play a punk song, but how long are they going to do this?

When they played 'All the people who died', my mind immediately turned to Perrynoid and last night. I was pretty concerned for a bit there.

Don and Mike did an entire show this afternoon that was music; it wasn't a protest, they said, it was simply because they don't know anything else to do - that they are getting jacked around by the lawyers.
Ron and Fez did an entire first segment also playing nothing but music. All of it was 1970s punk (most from "No Thanks" box set, with Sex Pistols thrown in). Whenever anyone would call, they would take a "request."
Caller: "Yeah! I'd like to hear 'Hit Me Baby One More Time.'"
Ron: "Excellent! Here's The Ramones!"
And "Sheena Is A Punk Rocker" would kick in.
When they were finally done, they explained it was their tribute to Don and Mike and their struggle with "the man." They said D&M were going into the lawyers on Monday, and they would be there with them "but the man doesn't know we exist."
So...there you go! A DC first! D&M/R&F semi-crossover.

I liked when they made an on-air appeal to Don and Mike to ask the lawyers if they (R&F) could have another poker tournament. Funny and (unfortunately) true.

No biggie, but the D+M show and R+F crossed-over often, early on. D+M were thinking up some 'Straight Eye for the Queer Guy' thing for Fez, but I think it just died out.

It is kind of funny how Ron will take a request and just play a punk song, but how long are they going to do this?something happened today that totally reminded me of this. i was listening to the ny "hip hop and r&b" station, and the dj was taking requests. this girl comes on, and says that it's her mom's birthday, and she'd like to request a song for her. she asks for a song and the dj says no. then he asks her if her mom's married or not... she answers that her mom's single. so, the dj says "your mom needs some s.e.x." and then plays that awful "vitamin s" song. ugh.
ok, so maybe it's not exactly the same...

Hearing "Radio Radio" at the beginning of Friday's show just totally freakin made my night and instilled the rebel spirit in me once again. The way of radio as we know it is over, but you can be as angry about it as all you want.
GO RON! GO FEZ!

Radio Radio
Yes, that "No Thanks!" Box set came in handy!
Oh, how I was hoping for that to go into The Clash's "Capital Radio" (or a double shot with "Washington Bullets"!), and then into "I Hate The Radio" by local bar band, "The Graverobbers."
Actually, even D&M's music show, while kind of jive, seemed fresh when compared to other "oldies" stations out there; hearing R&F's half hour block next to it just reinforced how horrible radio is in big markets, when you see what could be done.

Indeed. Don did a Beach Boys tribute in the 2-3 slot last year which was really good (since I'm a big BB fan) and Robb did a show one Saturday afternoon last summer that had a great variety of tunes. R&F's intro was similar. It was refreshing to hear songs that weren't from the usual playlists.
