alexander shulgin, man of the year

i read an article about him in the latest playboy(with sable & torre), and i find him the most intriguing man i've heard of. especially with all these people on the board taking different types of meds.

Monster, ya missed a Great one, in Terrence McKenna, who is mentioned in the article. He was on Art Bell often, but not a crackpot a la richard hoagland [the face on mars guy].

McKenna wrote 'archaic revival' and it's a great read. He investigated drugs that some say produce a common hallucination. He's also big on the theory that these hallucinogens may have been part of the chain of causality that produced the leap in our brains that produced complex language, even the leap to complex art and tool making; basically hallucinogens as mothers of invention. Not the Zappa thang.

Anyway, some of McKenna descriptions of the stuff he took [he died sadly a while back] are downright chilling. The STP mentioned in the article, he says, when you smoke it, takes you from sober, to wildly tripping in seconds. Yow.
