The sight of "her" face and that evil smile send shivers down my spine.

Are you kidding?! Suze rules!
Almost exactly five years ago, when she was just getting really popular, I caught part of her PBS special and decided to listen to what she had to say about money.
She was giving examples of people who had used her principles and had improved their lives - blah blah blah.
One example was based on the fact that so many people live their lives in clutter - that Americans (especially) value stuff more than money.
WOW!
She was looking right through the television, and was talking to a very broke Curtoid, who had an apartment filled with stuff.
She then spoke of a person who cleaned out her desk one day, after reading Suze's book, and discovered an envelope with a $5000 check from the IRS (maybe it wasn't $5000, but it was a lot) that had been ignored for so long she could not cash it in (forgive me if that part of the story is wrong too - that's the way I remember it).
Hmmmmm...I thought.
I have lots of stuff...I have a cluttered desk.
True story: I cleaned out my desk (and we're talking about one of these huge, deep old fashioned kind of banker's desks; not these wussy Ikea computer terminals children today call "desks"), which was filled with papers and papers and even more papers, including an envelope from a previous employer that I had failed to open, with a check for $1500, representing the cashing out of a my meager retirement plan I never knew existed.
The check was still good, and I deposited it right away, and set out to get rid of as much stuff as I could. Within two months I had matched that $1500 with money made from selling a lot of my crap on eBay, which (in 1999) was still a sellers market on a lot of the collectibles out there.
I used the $3000 to put down on a car, which I still drive today...and if she had a name, I would call her "Suze."
I have more crap and clutter than ever, but I also have a car. God bless that scary ass woman, whose books or videos I still haven't bought.
Another thesis for another door...
