Well, it only took about a week, but ClearChannel has decided to follow the trend and follow Infinity in the pussification of America. Basically, they've announced the Whopper so they can stay in fair competition with the Big Mac.

Has Radio changed that much since these new rules? Aside from Don and Mike's show. Howard and R&F sound about the same to me.

Howard sounds about the same other than there are more dumps than there had been in the past. He says that he's had enough and that he'll be gone within a couple of weeks, but somehow I doubt he'll leave.
As for Don and Mike, I just wish they'd move on with the program. They spend soooo much time talking about what they can't do and what they are gonna do, that they end up with very little program at all. Besides, they've gone from the defiant duo who claim that they weren't going to give in when it came to content to proclaiming that they are so funny that they can have a successful show and keep it clean.
D&M stated that all of them would be fine without their jobs at WJFK, yet they certainly haven't taken a "walk of protest" to stand up for what they believe. I think that they took a realistic view of what $$ they'd be giving up by resigning and then realized that Infinity as a whole would survive without them (as would the listeners) and said "Clean? We can work clean".
I agree that the points are valid concerning the government and Infinity/CBS/Clear Channel/everyone else going waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay beyond the bounds in terms of censorship, but I also think that D&M are pretending that they are bigger fish than they really are. The diminishing listernship that has been going on for the past year or so was happening long before this crap started going down.
Perhaps they should consider the fact that it doesn't matter if they are funny "clean" or "dirty", it would just be nice if they were funny a majority of the time.
Sorry if I've offended anyone. These are clearly opinions and are limited in their worth to anyone but me.

The differences in the shows are this:
Howard doesn't change because his style of radio is all he knows.
Don and Mike bitch about it because they are not funny enough to work clean.
Ron and Fez make a bit out of it and turn it towards there favor. Given the reactions of other shows it is fairly obvious that Ron and Fez are the only two funny enough to work clean.
As far as Clear Channel goes, it's not entirely suprising that they would follow Infinity's lead, they always have anyway. People lose sight of the fact that Clear Channel is in it's self a massive corporation.

So where the fuck am I supposed to go now if I want ranchy material. I guess HBO or Showtime's "Queer as Folk".
The first time I turned on Ron and Fez I was like "Wow, I can't believe he said that?" They were shock jocks to me. Now in order to be shocked I have to watch Bill Maher or a bunch of gay men having sex.
Ron: Are they lifeguards or lifepussies?!?!

I never thought R&F were that dirty to begin with. I listen everyday, I've listened to them a lot in the past 2-3 years and I don't think they have changed since this new "FCC scare"
D&M are the only one's I can tell have changed
(Stern has had issues with being dumped off and on for years now, it doesn't sound like much more is being dumped in the past couple weeks)
D&M have always spent too much time "pulling the curtain aside" and letting us hear their behind the scenes buisness, It's boring. I wish R&F were on from 3-7

I too have never known R&F to be "shock jocks". They actually used to play around with the term and do bits where they said they were killing babies (comedy gold). But of course I wouldn't know what they sound like now as they've been off NY radio for a while and I can't get them on "syndication underground" because of my 56k modem. :(
Edit: Spelling suck!

Yes!! How nice it would be to commute when an actual program is being aired.
Move Don and Mike to Mid-Days or nights. As much as D&M seem to hate callers anyway they could pre-record the entire show if they wanted to.

how do those of us with cable modem get it? I often work at night, but could set my PC to record/snag it.

Thanks for the info. I'll use that as a starting point and see if I can find something PC friendly.
Thanks again!

i don't want to imply that they are shock jocks. It's just that before that i never heard anything like that on radio. I used to just listen to music stations. Occasionaly z100 would shock me but that was when Elliot was on. I remember when cher's husband died, he did a parody song that had everyone calling saying how they'll never listen again.
Since they've been in NYC Ron and Fez do seem to treat the callers a little bit nicer.
Killing babies....some funny stuff.

Are you sure you had on R&F in NYC?
I started listening all the time because it WASN'T ye olde "OMG!11111!!!111 DID THEY JUST SAY THAT?!?!!"-style bullshit.

I have 56K dial up too. Use internet explorer and not your AOL browser. You may have to check your settings, delete cookies or something...
(that "something" part may be a bitch though)
Thanks Katylina, Monsterone, you make the shittiest sigs.

Has Radio changed that much since these new rules?
Well, I have my answer. I don't know Bubba the love sponge so I didn't get a sense that his firing was a big change in radio (like I felt O&A's firing was) but now with Howard being "suspended" from clear channel, I see this thing is big, not just D&M.
