Sorry folks, I gotta go with the astronaut.

I base this on the premise that each one gets their usual fighting equipment.

Caveman gets his club (and maybe domesticated dog). But Astro gets his handy dandy jetpack, mirrored helmet (so you can't see where he's looking), and his little repair torch (used on hubble and space station missions).

Fire beats wood.

If the caveman has his club (or large bone), then all he has to do is smash the astronauts' helmet visor. The visor will shatter and most likely blind the astronaut. Then the caveman can get prehistoric on his ass.

Caveman wins.... and makes a lot of grunting noises.

A caveman would have had to have been far more physical than a modern man, and while an astronaut would be in peak condition, I would think that a man who had to live by his wits and physical prowess in as difficult as the conditions of early man would have faced would give the caveman an advantage in hand to hand combat against a typical astronaut. But, alot of astronauts have had military combat training and a few would have held their own for a while, but I think that a caveman would have won out in the end, all things considering.
