Write the FCC - Michael Powell

It always seems like the politicians take a knee jerk reaction when they are sent letters by soccer moms or the religious right. Well let's fight back and let them know that there are millions of us who do not want our airwaves changed. We want to be able to listen to adult conversations and not have to be forced into buying satellite radios to hear our favorite radio personalities.

Remember folks if we do not fight back the FCC will only be taking one side. It will be of those who took the time to send a message that we want to roll back the clock to the 1950's. So start righting your emails to the head of the FCC so hopefully this issue of censoring our shows will cease.

Chairman Powell,

As a citizen, I'd like to make my opinion heard on the topic of the recent trend of radio censorship. This is not right. Radio personalities who are not violating current FCC regulations should not be silenced or their speech chilled.

Moreover, this is a highly disproportionate response to the unfortunate Superbowl incident. While what happened there was inappropriate, it was the action of two people on live television doing something that is clearly prohibited by law. They were wrong, and censure is appropriate for them. But it is not right that it should be extrapolated so far as to reach all media, which in turn affects all listeners.

I know that many radio programs now have (and some previously had) time delays in order to screen for inappropriate content. That should be enough to ensure that things which really should not be broadcast will not be. There is, therefore, no further need for content restrictions. Such requirements too heavily burden our rights. And, perhaps more importantly, this sort of curtailment of our rights is far more detrimental to society and our children than seeing a fleeting moment of adult content could ever be.
