My ROTC Det isn't marching in the St. Pat's Parade

Just got this in my e-mail:
2. The St. Patrick's Day Parade has a theme of "England get out of Ireland"
this year. This is a bit too politically biased for our nuetral Reserve Officer Training Corps and so... we will not be participating. However, look forward to the Memorial Day Parade on or around 31 May.
It seems like after we got our independence, we sort of forgot about the rest of the world with the exception of Panama.

ADF is technically right. Officially, the military is not to appear at political rallies. St. Patrick's Day is not an American holiday (Bagpipes, by the way, are just as Irish as they are Scottish). However, this isn't really a political rally, though the theme is politically-charged. If it was a "support the troops" rally, it would be allowed. In reality, support the troops rallies are normally pro-military action (pro-Vietnam, pro-Iraq) while the theme of the St. Patrick's Day parade is an afterthought at best.

i am scottish, i meant in the fact that the people who settled there were Brits


you need to learn some world history before you post. just because they share the same island doesn't mean that english, scots and welsh are the same people. While it's true they were once the same in pre celtic days, the english have suffered invasions and occupations that altered them. Roman, Angles, Saxon, Viking, Norman to create a new people. Scots mixed with the vikings as did the irish, but that doesn't mean they're the same people.
