Faithful gather at night to hail shattered Mary (http://www.sptimes.com/2004/03/03/Northpinellas/Faithful_gather_at_ni.shtml)
Though experts say the image was caused by a chemical reaction, the Shepherds of Christ Ministries in Ohio bought the structure, calling the image a miracle.

Many religious people see images in ordinary things, it doesnt make you a nut job, it's an extension of faith. Here is another one like that window, people see the Virgin Mary where this fence makes a turn. From a distance and if you look at it right, it's an eerie apparition that vanishes as you approach it :

The thing that makes me nervous about it is the article mentions that they think that people of another religion broke the window.
If your Jewish and in that area, I say GET OUT, GET OUT NOW!!!!

Of course it "is" a fence, but seeing things that arent really there and being insane are not the same thing. Look at these snapdragon seed pods...

Does it mean your a nut for seeing little alien looking heads?
I agree that buying a building and making it into a shrine is taking it to an extreme, and it doesnt make it a "miricle". I look at it like its a curious image, and I can see where someone would see things in it. My rationality tells me that its really something else but I think it is a little alarming that so many of you arent bothered by the fact that someone doesnt respect someone elses beliefs. To the people that are taking it to an extreme, I think that to them, its the same thing if someone smashed the windows of a church or temple. To them, it "is" a holy thing, and civilized people should respect that, even though our rationality doesnt accept it as a sacred place.

Are you sad because their window got broken, or are you sad because they believe that the image in the window was Mary?

Of course not.
But you might be if you still BELIEVE you see little alien heads, as opposed to what they actually are.
There IS a difference.

There IS a difference.
Point taken, however, in the destruction of the world trade center, when they found this girder
http://www.operationsaveamerica.org/articles/articles/images/cross-wtc.jpg
and people took it as a symbol and made a shrine out of it.
http://www.seankreynolds.com/fortheeyes/nyc2003/ground_zero_cross.jpg
No one made them out to be nuts because it has significance to some of them. We know its just a girder, but out of respect, we allow it and dont label it as "nutty". Do you agree?

But they're not making something up. It really IS a cross. For Christians, that's an important symbol. And that's clearly a cross, no matter how it was formed. It's not someone seeing something they THINK is a cross and it turns out to be something else, as with everything else in this thread. Simple.
Now if there was a bundle of oily rags in the wreckage that looked like St. Peter or something if you stood on your head and looked at it with only one eye at sundown, that's more on par with what most people are pointing out in this thread.
The first few pics? Opitcal illusions or misidentification. The pic of a cross? It's a cross, no matter how you look at it, no what angle or what photo.

Well said Mojo.
The people who see Mary, Jesus, Elvis in things such as fences, tree bark and potato chips are nut jobs. More specifically, the people who take time out of their lives to pray to these optical illusions are nutjobs.

Its how the viewer sees the image that determines its significance. Someone shattered that window on purpose, the image on the window was significant to the people who got inspiration from it. Your acting like just because you feel its silly that they shouldnt be effected by it. This concept can be illustrated in any of the statements you guys make regarding what you believe as opposed to what someone else believes in all the topics you post in. So the point is, was it wrong that the window was shattered? Is it wrong that the people who payed respect to it are regarded as fools? I'm not saying that the image on the window was a miracle or anything, just to allow people to believe as they want and not ridicule them for it, or dont be so antsy when someone challenges your heartfelt beliefs. Its only fair.

Yes, it's wrong that the window was shattered if it was done, as it most likely was, by someone who does not own that window. It's certainly ok to ridicule people for believing something silly. If I believed that wearing tinfoil on the inside of my hat would prevent the aliens from controlling me, I should be ridiculed. Believing that a crack in awindow or rust on the side of a water tank is a spiritual apparition is equally silly.

Part of being an adult is to not ridicule others because of their beliefs. The common belief in today's world is that science is the answer and that religous people are whackos. 500 years ago the reverse was true. Newton was the whacko and "you" (those who are so sure they know what's best for everybody else) would have criticized him. Today he is a revered figure.
Try not hopping on the "groupthink" train and respect others even though they may disagree. You just might learn something once in a while.

Newton was the whacko and "you" (those who are so sure they know what's best for everybody else) would have criticized him. Today he is a revered figure.
500 years ago we, as humans, were learning facts on how the world works. Concrete facts made of the laws of nature. Thousands of years before, most facts (except for mathematics) were hard to come by. This is how fantasy and myth took root, and religion began. So of course Newton was looked down on. Look at Galileo! He suffered because his facts disturbed church doctrine. How dare he!
I respect all people's religion because if it works for them and keeps them happy, then good for them. Happy people are peaceful people.
But let's be realistic, you hear of people running to see: "a woman in the clinic who had given birth to the Messiah and who had died. She was later dug up and was still alive but her whole body was burned -- just her two breasts were unharmed"
Well that's just silly. I do not respect them. I feel sorry for them.
He who has not laughed at misguided souls such as these, throw the first apple.
