Question about Flash MX

I've used flash b4 andi haven't had a problem b4 but i can't seem to do some simple things that i was once able to do... How come I can't add actions to a button? it doesn't allow me to add any actions.
i also wanted to put a movie clip into the hit frame of a button but i tested it and the movie didn't play... can anyone help?

I've only used Flash MX a couple of times, but I'm pretty sure the Action commands are in the same place as the older versions

I'm gonna try this one last time.... I want to add some actions to my buttons but i can't seem to apply any and i have now idea y.... does anyone have any idea why this would be?
