The TV news report is hard to ignore: An unsuspecting man goes to a house where he allegedly thinks a teenage girl is waiting to have sex with him, but instead he is met by a TV reporter with a camera and microphone.


Now of course I think any man soliciting teenage (under 18) sex over the internet is just wrong, creepy and should be stopped - I have a problem with a news channel trapping a guy - or anyone - just for ratings.

Our local Fox News team did the same thing. I loved the look on one guys face (yes they showed his face, I guess because he was out in public you don't need a release, I don't know how the law works) as he said "Wait, this isn't the house I'm trying to get to..."

It's not true that's just tv/movie make believe. I know someone who is about to be a cop and I asked him to explain it to me.

Yes, we have been discussing this in the wrestling forum as, unfortunately, the owner / promoter of the country's largest independent wrestling promotion just got caught in one of these stings as he showed up for what he thought would be a tryst with a 14 year old boy.

I'm torn about this. On the one hand, I like what these guys at Perverted Justice are doing.

On the other, they're not cops and I'm not sure how cool it is to be inviting pedophiles into residential neighborhoods just for these sting operations, without the consent - or in most cases, the awareness - of the neighbors. The neighbors are getting pissed, and justifiably so.

They may have to respond. If not, and someone IS in danger, they can be sued.

According to the Age Of Consent (http://www.ageofconsent.com/ageofconsent.htm) website, the average age of consent for the US is 16.25 years of age.
Now, i'm not saying anything against the Perverted Justice website, because what they are doing is good, because yes, going after a 12 or 13 year old for the purpose of sex is just wrong, but if it falls over the age of consent, even if it is under 18 than what is the problem.

Sorry Snoogans, but thats what i had always heard too, but after further analysis, the overall age of consent in NJ is 16, whether the person is 17, 20, 30 or 100.

16.25 is just the number i got from averaging the ages from the 50 states and the District of Columbia. Of the 51 areas only 13 were over the age of 16, with only 7 as having 18 as the legal age of consent. 38 of the areas have consent ages of 16 or lower, with S. Carolina, Missouri, and Iowa having a possible age of consent of 14. How fucked up is that.
