i'm thining of taking a medical billing class at a school called Bluedata in Midtown Manhattan. I've read that it's one of the occupations that are starting to get big as far as employment opportunities. I'm just asking if this is true and would be worth taking the classes

I can't think of a more fulfilling career than badgering sick people for money they don't have.

I work for an insurance company, and we are always looking for qualified people and can never find them. They just hired some idiot for 50,000 per year with a car and she didn't know shit. People are getting older and fatter and insurance is getting cheaper and more complicated. Insurance is a huge buisness. you will be able to find some kind of work.

I agree with it getting more complicated, but how is it getting cheaper? Our insurance premium goes up every year, along with our co-pays. What company do you work for?

I meant they are cheaper. they want to pay for less and less. Like hospital stays are getting shorter. Shit like that. They are always looking for ways to not have to pay bills on a technicality.

I did medical billing in high school. If you can learn a computer program, its pretty damned easy.

The salaries I've seen for billers aren't exceedingly high for entry level billers. Once you have 5 years under your belt, you can make a good living.

The flip side is, you have people screaming at you when their insurance doesn't pay their bill and you have to explain that they have to pay. I got called every name in the book when I did billing for a doctor... the doctor once made me turn away a person with late stage throat cancer becuase he was oon Medicaid and he thought he wouldnt get enough insurance reimbursement from him. It can be a stressful job.

I think it's a fine idea. But I'd prefer if someone else sent me my bill.

My family would be spending over 1,000 dollars for my medicine a month. Thank God our insurance pays for most of it. It's insane though how much money it costs for stuff. And as far as that job, I hate it. They've been pestering my dad about bill's that he already payed after he got angeoplasty, or however you spell it.

But good luck with that. :)
