'Tis the season. For the feast of St Joseph (my namesake), my family usually gets me Sfingi, its an Italian thing, a fried dough filled with either canolli filling or custard. I was suppose to have been born in mid march, but was a month premature. There was an Italian tradition that you looked ahead to see when a baby was born and chose the babys name based on the feast day of the saint near the time of the expected delivery, hence, Im Joseph, because I was suppose to have been born near La Festa di San Giuseppe (feast of Saint Joseph in Italiano)
Caio!

dude, what the hell is wrong with italian americans and their pronouncing of italian words??? i've hear 30 different variations of pasta fagioli . remember billy and pronouncing calamari?
get it together people. the french are worse, though. the pronouciation is no where near what you read.

Well, the reason why there are so many pronunciations, often for the same thing, is because of the different dialects, as well as bastardization of words once these groups came over from Italy. Its not that any one is "wrong" but that there are so many variations. To me its also like "sauce", I know of some Italians who refer to tomato sauce as "gravy", but no one in my family ever has; to us, its just "sauce".

good stuff...
my favorite birthday cake is an Italian Rum cake made at a bakery on Newark Ave in jersey city(near journal square) it had the vanilla and chocolate italian custard inside with the sliced almonds on the outside and i loved that rum... they use to make the 'butterfly' pastries with rum. it was kind've like a cupcake filled with the italian custard and rum and it had two pieces of cake on top that looked liked butterfly wings YUMYUM
my mouth is watering
