Ok; whose got the tech-support Head-Set On?

Trying to streamline this laptop; and so I'm running 'msconfig' and going to the 'startup' to specify what loads at boot.

Q: Some of the programs are easy to ID. AOL? there it is; uncheck it. Done.

But What the F are these? I want to disable as many as possible so the RAM isnt being hoarded by idling background programs I don't need:

Apoint
AGRSMMSG
ccApp
cpqset
Ati2mdxx
EabServ
cMeSys
Nambla.exe

Ok that last one is a joke, but the others: What are they? what do they do? and Which can I disable? I'm configuring for sound, not looks, if that helps.

Oh, and if any of those are porn things? bite me.

Try a search on Google Groups for each of those, 9 times out of ten you'll be able to decypher them out. Also check this out before you decide to disable anything with MSConfig...MS XP Configurations... (http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm)

ccApp = Common Client CC App Associated with Norton AntiVirus 2003, which runs auto-protect and email checking facilities. Without this service, both facilities cannot function correctly.

cpqset = Not sure. Is this a COMPAQ Laptop? They usually start alot of there internal system files with cpq

EabServ = Never heard of

cMeSys = Gator GAIN, adware that is installed by certain free software and is advertising spyware that runs in the background and displays advertisements. Not really something you want on your PC... download a program called SpyBot S&D to get ride of it and other programs like it.

Thats the one spyware I can never seem to get rid of, Ive Downloaded every Anti spyware program there is and still nothing! Im having Best Buy check this thing out and setup a restore point on this new comp.
