i was going to make a purchase for a new game system. i already have a gamecube. so the choice would be either xbox or playstation2

i've heard that the 3rd playstation is coming out a year or so from now. if thats the case, i dont want to get a ps2 only for a new one to come out shortly after. but i do want to check out the new vice city.
thats the main reason i want one.
now xbox has the GTA 2/3 set, star wars KOTOR, and some other games that look cool.

i dont know. any suggestions?

itll last you a good couple months, its the best racing game ever. Plus gta, but you can get that for the computer. If you have a decent computer i would suggest upgrading that more than buying a new system, you could probably get a nice video and sound card for your computer with that money, and computer games are alot better and easier to set up online.

If your into 1st person shooters get and xbox and pick up Halo. Halo 2 should be coming out sometime this year(finally) and I believe its xbox live. KOTOR is a great game as well

Xbox, especially if you have broadband for live. Also all the good PS2 games are going to get ported to Xbox anyway. Vice City, GTA3, MGS2. Don't listen to what Rockstar and Koonami says either, MGS3 and San Andreas are coming to Xbox too.

It almost doesn't really matter anymore. Most games come out on more than one system. I wanted Manhunt but it was only on PS2 now it's coming out for X-Box.

I have both PS2 and X-Box and I have to say I am partial to X-Box. X-Box saves all my games on the hard drive, games load faster the graphics seem better to me and if I could only keep one it would be the X-Box.

I had no problems with Halo on a 1.7ghz, 1gig ram pc, but I totally stall out in KOTOR when I try running through Tatooine.

i've got an athlon 2100, 1gig ram, 9700pro, and in some parts of halo, i cant get a consistent 30fps@1024x768 with shadows and decals turned off. and this is all with jaggies. for a 2 year old game, thats just ridiculous. the lighting and shaders are great, but i'd gladly sacrifice that for sharper textures and smoother framerates.

did you get the 1.3 patch for kotor?

square enix will never port any of its games to xbox. ps2 should be your choice. in my opinion all the sports games play best on ps2 cimply because of the controller. you can get the controller adapter for xbox but i have had difficulty with those. if you're into fps xbox has halo, but who cares when you already have the greatest fps ever in metroid prime on cube, and prime 2 is coming out soon for cube as well.

Square produced what is probably my favorite game for the PS2 - Kingdom Hearts. Yes, it was big on the disney, but it was an overall fun game with great sound, video, controls, etc.

phix, I think of the Tactics as seperate franchises because they're not RPGS. I also left out Mystic Quest and the FF ADventures and Legends.

And the movie was written by different people than the game writers. The initial story was by the same person who conceived the FF games, but the actual writing was by others. Square opened an entire new division in Hawaii to do the movie, then closed it after the movie.

Bioware has produced 10 games. Only 1 has been on X-Box so far. About half of those have appeared on consoles (PS1, PS2, Dreamcast). Bioware has 2 games in development, Jade Empire has been announced as XBox/PC and the other is an unannounced PC only title.

Don't oversell your console as the platform for RPGs with only 1 title. PC has always been THE platform for the best rpgs, hands down.

And Knicks, PM2 looks cool. I should pick up PM1 for my N64 one day.

ill agree with that, but when you're running on an amd athlon, have a whopping 20 gig harddrive (most of which is tied up with music), and 96 mb of memory it limits what games you can play. i dotn even want to mention my video card and my lack of sound card.

and most of the cash from work goes to beer and weed. so im not getting a new comp anytime soon. playstation2 and cube are my primary gaming sources.

I got a Cube and a PS2. Both are great, and only now am I considering getting an XBox for KOTOR 2 (my only PC now is a laptop) and Fable. Fable could be the mother of all games.

And the GTAs? Forget it. Poor blocky N64 visuals, clunky control, and a camera that's everywhere but where you want it? All so I can run around a digital city, run over pedestrians, and kill hookers? Nah, even that shit gets old after a while.
