I'm updating my resume. I just want to know which comes first your Work History or Educational history. I've seen some of my friends resumes and some put their Work History first and others put their Education. And does it make a difference which goes first?

Thanks

Depends how long you have been out in the work place. If you graduated recently, put your schooling first. If you graduated 10 years ago, put it last.

It depends on the job you are applying for along with (as previously mentioned) has been most recent for you and has the most depth.

If you've gone back to college for you MBA and are now reentering the workforce, make sure it's at the top.

You might also want to start off with skill sets if you are applying for a job that gives great detail on the required skills for the position in the advertisement. Some folks also start with skills when they've been at the same company for the last big chunk of years AND they've been out of school for a while.

I actually have 3-5 resumes (some even have my real information ;) ) and I have used them based upon what position I'm applying for and if I've received any advance information (from a head hunter/recruiters) for what the company is looking for in the new hire.

To be fair though, I could easily have just 2 or 3 resumes but I have some that are geared towards my computer geek background and some that highlight my administrative work history.

Do as much research as possible on the company you are applying to and then try to pick the resume that will grab their attention first.

Go with whatever's more impressive. Also go with what's recent. If you received your last degree 5 years ago and have worked full time jobs since then, put the work thing first.

I agree with the depends how long. If you're only a year or two out, education first. If you've been out a couple years or longer, work first.
