Acting??

Hey! I was wondering if anyone knew anything about breaking into movies...like being an extra...I'm not looking to become a famous person or anything unrealistic like that...I just ALWAYS wanted to be in a movie...see what it was like, I have seen some movies filmed, etc. and think its really cool, but I dont know what to do to see if I can get work as an extra or what ever. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what I could do? Oh yeah....no porno comments please...I do those in the privacy of my own home ;p ;p ;p

if you want to be an extra, or something like that, my understanding is that you can go through "Central Casting." I think it is in a variety of cities.

my brother was an extra in conspiracey theory.. he got paid a few hundred for standing in the backround for 9hrs .. he went to some acting school in the city, got some head shots and went through an agency to get auditions..

Gaia, it's probably easier if you're in L.A., but I would suggest you check out Variety. I think they have classifieds for casting calls here in New York.

It shouldn't be impossible for you to find something as an extra.

I tried out for an Oscar Myer weiner comercial when I was younger. I thought I did good but I was obviously wrong because I wasn't in the commercial. BUT I did get an Oscar Myer Weiner coloring book and fun pack so it was win win if you ask me.

We have had board members who have done that kind of thing.

Mikey from the Eggplant Queens sits behind Jamie Lynn Sigler in a Mariah Carey video.

Lourden was on Law and Order.

I know both of them have also done other extra gigs. You can get in touch with them and ask about it.

I've done acting in NY and was recently in Mona Lisa Smile. I got the job through my acting school, but if you pick up Backstage Magazine, it will have open calls for extras.

But be prepared, extra work in looooooong days. Depending on the movie, it can be up to 15 hour days. Bring lots of books, music and food with you.
