I actually saw this, listening to the end of the Fastest Hour in radio, saw the Passenger Jets escorted by two F-16.
"We always have planes in the air; people should be used to seeing F-16s in the air above Washington," he said. "But we apologize for any alarm."

I work in Crystal City, right next to National Airport and within view of the White House and Capital Building. I see airplanes all the time, but there aren't being escorted or chased by F-16s at low altitudes.
If we do see F-16s or other fighter Jets they are WAY up there, unless you live near Andrews Airfoce Base, then yes, you're used to the site of fighter jets flying that low, but not right behind what looked like passenger airliners.

The 113th Air Wing said the the publicity campaign would include photographs and video taken of the Tuesday flight, possibly including views from both the ground and the air.
How much you want to be those photos never show up anywhere.
