So, how are these huge tax cuts working out for you? I myself am disabled and don't work, but my parents got a whopping $6 tax return. As you can imagine, they're going nuts over how to spend it.

Yeah, I'm a little bitter right now.

got the usual 7k

my wife and i just claim ourselves 'during the year' and not the kids... we look at it as a 'savings account' and look for a bigger lump sum than more in the paycheck each week... if we were savers then we'd probably look to get back more each week but we'd just spend it sooner than later...

I got back 700 federal and 500 state. Its usually better to just break even, because the government is "holding" your money for a year and they are getting a btter rate on the money than you ever will. Its kinda nice to get money back though. At least if its enough to pay the guy who does the taxes for me his fee. One day I'll try to do them myself, by brother seems to do fine doing it through the E File at home and they havent audited him so,..who knows. I hear that the program itself is deductable.

Got back almost $300 from state, but owe $70 to federal. Last year, I got $120 from federal, but owed the state of Wisconsin $270.

Between NJ & Federal, I'm paying about $1,200. Company pays my MBA tuition, but they count it as salary. Damn.

I owed 500 state because my boss filed my W-4 wrong with her accountant. For some reason, their were no with holding taken out or some shit. Oh well, its cool. I had the money and paid it. Such is life. I never get mad about taxes. People were like aren't you pissed you owed. And I was like, fuck no, maybe my 500 paid for the bullet that shot Uday. Just thinking it could have been cools me down. Last year I got back 1250 which was cool. Spent it on a Trip to Montreal. Why do the married people get so much more back, is their some kind of tax break.

Wadd- 420 a week?? That sucks bro. Thats a serious chunk of change

Why do the married people get so much more back

what adds to it is the interest on the mortgage that gets claimed

i remember our first house in 86' we paid 85,000 but the total payments after 30 years would be in the 350,000 range... i couldn't believe it at the time

Since I'm unemployed (student) my wife pays less in taxes now than if she was single - which rules.

When I start work we're gonna pay more than what we would if we were single - which sucks.

So, how are these huge tax cuts working out for you?

Given the responses this thread has already generated, the answer seems to be: rather nicely, thank you.

actually, no. mine is relatively unchanged over the past 6 years. So i'm not feeling the tax cut.

Me neither. My tax cut has amounted to less than a dollar each year.

I think people are confusing the actual tax cut with their refunds. You would have gotten those regardless.

My parent's income has stayed the same the last three years, and every year their refund has shrunk. There has been no change in what they have been paying throughout the year. They have no investment income, and now their kids are too old to get any child tax breaks. I guess the tax cut missed them.

i didn't have to file this year

Correct if I'm wrong(I'm sure someone will) but aren't you required to file each and every year regardless of your income?????

You can file, but you don't have to if you make under something like $7000, I think, perhaps, maybe........

Oh, tax cuts...

I'm just all a-flutter over the extra buck-fifty in my paycheck. Where to spend it first, that's the dilemma I go through every two weeks.

I don't own a giant corporation, so I didn't notice any tax cuts.

Actually, I got back less than I usually do, which is expected, as I made less than I usually do, since I became unemployed as a result of the aforementioned giant corporations who got the big tax breaks stealing my ex-employer's clients and forcing them into near bankrupcy...

um, so overall, not too good, no.

As far as tax returns are concerned, I got about $1500 back from the feds and the state combined. Which was a big help since I'm saving up for a new car.
