What part of the door is the doornail? And what's so dead about it?
Please explain before I run out of cookies.

I guess its any nail thats hammed into a door, or anything else. Its no longer useable and therefore functions only for its primary purpose. Unlike a unhammered nail that if full of possibilities and unrealised potential.

That your Father and 8th grade teacher were either violent or you just brought that out in them.

found this doing a google search:
Origin
From Shakespeare's King Henry VI.
CADE: Brave thee! ay, by the best blood that ever was
broached, and beard thee too. Look on me well: I
have eat no meat these five days; yet, come thou and
thy five men, and if I do not leave you all as dead
as a doornail, I pray God I may never eat grass more.

i would assume that that phrase just comes from the "going down the toilet" phrase. It seems like its just a nicer way of saying it.
i'll beat you with a wet noodle
And i just figured that this one just came from beating someone with a hose.
