Why do people settle with that numb tongue feeling

Why do we do it to ourselves?

Maybe not all of us, but a good amount of people enjoyed a piece of cinnamon gum, and every time we do we are left with an irritated numb tongue. Even the sides of your cheeks are numb.

It's the sweet cinnamony goodness that lasts all of 6 chews that drives us in. We don't remember about it till after that juice goes away. The inside of our mouths start to feel like you just left the dentist. Sometimes you cant resist those delicious first 6 chews and load one after another, until you're left with a ball of gum and a mouth so numb you cant even chew.

And that numbness never goes away. I tried everything from milk to peanut butter, and my lower lip still droops down like Bill Murray in caddy shack.

venting once again...don't mind me.

I have this tendency to bite the insides of my cheeks for some reason, not to cut them or anything, just to kind of hold the skin between my teeth.
They make these strips now from Cloraseptic that are for mouth or throat pain that numbs your whole mouth and gives you this chery taste that is oddly satisfying.

don't chew gum much but i feel the same way about 'very hot' foods... especially some of the wings where they are just 'hot' with very little flavor. i just say to myself 'why would anyone like to have their lips and tongue feel like they are on fire?" then later on in a different area...

i like a sweet flavored "medium hot", something tangy with a little bite
