Ron & Fez moving to Orlando?

Well, the Buzz up here is Burbank, and he has it on good authority that Ron and Fez signed a long term contract with Infinity Broadcasting, not Clear Channel, to be on WJFK-FM in Northern Virginia, with the carrot that they might be syndicated to stations in Baltimore and New York, once they settle on a time slot for the show.

Do your research and prove me wrong.........

My gut reaction is just to say "No," but what the hey...

What more research/proof do you need that they are not looking at WJFK as a weigh-station so they can return south? Even with the station's recent ratings skid, they still generate more money than just about any station in the country. Believe it or not, this station, in DC, is considered a desirable destination.

Other than the fact that they are catching on in the DC area, one of the top markets, in a BIG way and stand to get very rich - that they both purchased homes in the area - that they had an opportunity when WNEW fell inward to return to Florida and turned it down - and that Ron, more than likely, doesn't want to keep relocating his children into new schools every couple of years.

Sorry...I don't want to dis the Florida fans, who are the really hard-core old school listeners. I'm sure they would love to be on in Florida again, and maybe even based out of there if they were able to make it work with syndication. However, they have the Infinity brand on their ass right now, and unless Papa Mel suddenly decides he doesn't like the cut of their jib, if and when they get syndicated, it more than likely will be on other Infinity stations, with a preference to those closest to DC, for the time being.

Radio is a rotten business, though, and who knows - maybe Florida is the fallback if DC doesn't work out, much like DC was NY's fallback. Everyone in radio does seem to always return to where they came from.

The good news for the boys is that WJFK will support them and let them build their audience. With the exception of G. Gordon Liddy and The Greaseman, I can't think of a major show on 106.7 that was ever bumped - Liddy was let go to make room for the big O&A shake-up, and The Greaseman was dropped by all of the evening affiliates across the country. I sincerely believe that R&F will be on WJFK for a long, long, long time, and WILL make it back on the air in some of their old markets - maybe through a relationship with Satelite radio.

Mr. Radio is correct about the contract being up in May. As for moving to Florida, there are no current plans. However, Florida has expressed great interest in having the show back either through syndication or as the flagship station for the show. I personally am hoping for a move to Satellite radio.

As I have told a few people in the past six months, I see the show going to either Satellite or Florida when all is said and done this summer. I don't see much room for growth or a future at WJFK for the show which is just my opinion. While it is a haven for Don and Mike it just isn't for Ron and Fez.

I've always been honest (ok...maybe not) about speculating and making shit up (the stuff I really know something about I don't post on here and talk about) - I even said so on the air when you IMed to bust balls.

That said, I do have a pretty good batting average with a lot of stuff - to the point where I've had real inside people question who I really know on the inside!

I'm willing to make a bet (name a price up to $100) that Ron and Fez will be here after May 2004.

I highly doubt Ron & Fez will stay in DC. Since Don just blurted that over the radio, I'm sure R&F aren't gonna be too happy with him, and that'll only make them probably want to leave even more.
