Wireless Connection: McDonald's will charge $2.95 for two hours of connectivity and may continue some of its pilot promotions, such as free connections for buying an "extra value meal." (http://apnews.excite.com/article/20040413/D81TT0V80.html)
I don't get it. McDonald's is "fast food". They are all about turnover.
The playground for kiddies I understand. It gives parents a place to bring the wee ones to burn some energy and eat.
Free coffee for senior citizens - ok, you're hoping they'll buy the breakfast even if they linger a while chatting with the friends.
But who is going to whip out their laptop and start going at it greasy fingers and all? Not only that, but it takes all of 10 minutes to eat a McDonald's meal. Do they really want the tables full of people who have already eaten and are doing some after dinner surfing?
I can't imagine that their margin is big enough to sustain the slow-up of dine-in turnover. Coffee houses have limited seating for a reason, they want you in and out. The cybercafe's line you up in stalls. You take one seat. It's a freaking 4 seater at McDonald's.
