Its the trendiest spot in Brooklyn to live. You can take that how you wish. It has a ton of bars and restaurants and hipsters galore strolling around the streets. Williamsburg is a small area of brooklyn near the water facing Manhattan around 14th street. Realtors now are calling areas such as Greenpoint and even Bushwick, Williamsburg or East Williamsburg. Overall it's not my favorite part of Brooklyn I think its ugly, its expensive and filled with people who are a bit to cool for school. But it does have things to do its close to Manhattan so check it out you might love it.

if you can live on the northside, it can be an amazing neighborhood -- the southside still has it's spots, the the hasidim are getting pissy with all the new hipsters .....

the good:
teddy's brunch is amazing ..... warsaw/northsix is a great venue for indie/lower tiered acts ..... planet thai is the one of the best sushi joints in the city ..... muggs has an amazing selection of tap beers ..... the abbey can have it's moments ..... a walk along bedford on the weekend can be great ..... brooklyn brewery has great mini-festivals and seasonal events ..... plus you're only a trainstop or two from union square .... and the polish restaurants will heap a shit load of amazing food at dirtcheap prices .....
the bad:
the neighborhood has become overrun with artists exiled from manhattan rising prices, and midwestern hipsters that try way too hard to establish nyc credibility -- can lead to sharing a drink with folks way too taken with themselves ..... develop a tolerance, it will serve you well
make sure the address is in williamsburg: if it's northside/southside, greenpoint or bushwick ..... if you're north of metropolitan to mcguinness, near bedford or greenpoint ave your rent might be worth it ..... otherwise make sure you're happy with the space, and comfortable with block ......
lived there for 2.5 years and have hung out there since 1993 -- my favoutite place in the city

Its nice there. If you find it too expensive, look into something in the East New York or New Lots area. Its cheaper, and Linden Blvd will get you wherever you need to go, quickly.

to me the whole city is the same...a place i never want to visit again or live in. i'm happier in the suburbs away from all the people and traffic. i never enjoyed when my friends would want to go to the city on the weekends. the only thing that would make me go back to the city is if i find a job i just can't turn down...but i would only work there, not live there.

I don't know, call me crazy, but if I were moving to a new city, I'd want to check out the area before I made a final decision.
