Its this weekend on ESPN, the first 3 rounds are on Saturday and the last 4 on on Sunday, but I figure we should start talking about it now.

With Mike Williams ineligible, for the time being at least, the Jets have a another decision to make as to whom they will go after with their 1st round pick. The Giants, with the #4 pick, have a lot more options. Robert Gallery the Left tackle out of Iowa could really help out Kerry Collins, whereas Philip Rivers or Ben Roethlisberger can help out in the long run because lets face it, if they dont better that OL, Collins isnt going to be around too long. Another possiblity for the Giants is Sean Taylor out of Miami, who has been ranked as one of the cant miss defensive players.

Frankly I think this is one of the more deeper drafts in a while. The argument of who is going to be the best QB coming out of the draft is in full gear as there is 3 possible contenders for that title in Manning, Ben Roethlisberger, and Rivers. There is plenty of very good wide outs, in fact has been labeled the deepest receiver draft ever, even without Mike Williams.

Oh and of course there are those other 30 teams...

My 2 cents.

Giants gotta go Gallery if he is there at 4. If they can't trade up to 2 to ensure getting him and they miss out (fuckin Skins) they have to try and trade down, get one of the 2 remaining QBs after Manning is gone, and work on the O-line from there.

You would have to give up a lot to move up and as good as Gallery is, lets remember he is an Offensive lineman. I dont think he is worth giving up someone like Strahan.

Collins has about 3-5 good years left. They HAVE to go for Gallery. He's a a lock for their o-line for years. However, they did add a bunch of o-linemen during the off season so they might go for a defensive player. Sean Taylor would also be a great pick.

Gallery is not going to be in the draft when the Giants pick at #4.

Manning is going first to San Diego or possibly to a team that trades up for him.
Oakland isnt gonna take Gallery, theyve got to go with Fitzgerald, who is the best player in the entire draft.
With Arizona in the 3 spot, they could either take Gallery themselves or trade down a couple spots and let some other team, maybe a Washington or Cleveland, take Gallery.
Either way, Giants are going to need to trade to the 1, 2, or 3 spot if they really want Gallery. I dont think they will, and with alot of options now, they could trade down to the number 7 or 9 spots and take maybe a DeAngelo Hall or Phillip Rivers.

Now, as for my Dallas Cowboys. They got the 22 pick and now that the Patriots have Corey Dillon and no other team then Denver really needing or wanting a running back, the Cowboys will most likely be able to choose between Kevin Jones or Chris Perry. Even though I like Perry more and want him on the team, I think they will go with Jones. He draws many comparisons to Curtis Martin and is a very Bill Parcells-like back.
Either way, as long as the Cowboys walk away with Jones or Perry in the first round(or hopefully Stephen Jackson if he falls dramatically or they trade up) I'll be happy.

I was watching ESPN Draft Special and they said that the Chargers are giving the the rest of the league a 2-day window to offer trades for the their first round pick. I'm guessing the Redskins or Giants get it if anybody does.

The name I heard floating around for the Giants to trade up is Ike Hilliard. With this being an extremely WR heavy draft, I don't know if that would be a horrible guy to give up. I want Gallery, but if the Giants don't get him, I wouldn't mind them taking Roethlisberger. The Giants pick in the second round could pick them up a JP Losman who would still be a good quarterback for the future. Kerry Collins only has one year left on his contract and I never thought he was that good, even back in the day PSU. How does a guy that big fumble so much?

Dont be so sure, I figure the Rams will snatch him up with the 26th overall pick. Ive heard they are very high on Losman.

Its being reported on ESPN now that Mannings father privately spoke with the chargers and asked them not to draft his son. Are you serious? Like the chargers will be like is that all, sure thing.

I think if the Giants don't trade up to get Manning, the Chargers will take him. The Raiders will take Gallery. The Cardinals will take Fitzgerald.(He and Dennis Green have a relationship that goes back to when he was a kid). The Giants will take Rothesberger.

My question is what for some reason, Rothsberg... The Jew and Gallery are there at the 4 pick? Who do you think the Giants would take?

Good to see another bears fan from jersey. Are you going to the game on 11/07 vs. the giants? Ill be there. I think they will take one of those LBs out of Miami...many people are saying they could still be there. And Kurt Warner is not a terrible back-up to Grossman. But, now that the rams hear that there may be interest in him, they are going to say they are keeping him but surely will entertain any trade offers...probably a 3rd round pick or so.

EDIT: this is the 2nd year in a row we've lost a good LB to free agency...Colvin first and now Holdman.

Since apparently the Supreme Court has nothing else to worry about, (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=1787651) Clarrett and Mike Williams are officially not allowed in this year's draft. Sucks for them, especially since their dumb asses aren't allowed to go back to school now. Can someone say Arena League?

Oh wait, they don't run the ball there. Sucks for Clarett.

Eli is the most hated man in the NFL already...and Archie is #2.

i think its really unfair to the whole NFL for a guy to do something like this. its the whole purpose of the draft...for the bad teams to get better. why don't they all just hold out and eventually they will all have to become free agents and go to whatever team they want.

Pluswhy bring this tool here when everyone already hates him? Just go with Rivers who as one of the ESPN guys said is more NFL ready.

Nice choice by the Jets getting Vilma. Good solid LB, just what they need.

Dallas really f'ed themselves. They needed a franchise RB which they couldve gotten in Steven Jackson. Instead Parcells got a bit too greedy with the amount of picks he got from the Bills and wound up seeing all 3 top RBs in the draft go to the Rams, Cinncinati and Detroit. They got a 1st rounder for next year but they needed a tailback badly.

The Jets have what, like 8 players left on their roster that they didnt drop? You would have have to give up too much for a guy that you dont really need. They have 2 OK TEs, they didnt need. Winslow is a great player, but even more so than him Id love to have Sean Taylor on this team. Hes without a doubt the best defensuive player coming out. The Jets however made a good pick in Vilma who is a solid linebacker.

As far as SD, they played this one like fucking geniuses. They went public with absolutely everything, and in turn, they won out big.

By letting everyone know what Archie said, they were able to get the QB they wanted without looking like complete goats by waisting a #1 on him. Not only that, but they milked the Giants.

I wouldnt go as far as to call Manning the next Ryan Leaf, the kid definitely has talent and is going to be good. I dont think however that the Giants shouldve made that trade. a) Manning is still unproven and you dont know what he will be able to do in the NFL. b) You dont know how the Giants are going to do this season therfore I think giving up the 1st rounder for next year was a big mistake. Even if Manning is all that he is hyped up to be, you still need those draft picks. I wouldve stuck with Rothlesberger or Rivers and kept the picks.

Big mistake in releasing Collins. It is never a good idea to throw a rookie QB, especially one with all the expectations that Eli has. Let Collins mentor Manning, and let him assume the starting job, dont just force it on him.

That being said, Manning is going to be an exceptional QB, and having Toomer around will only help him. If only they could get a line and a more reliable HB.

yeah, that makes sense. But when you dont have a first rounder next year, and a rookie starting, you're asking for trouble.

I think Eli is going to be good, great even. But when you have Palmer and Van Dyke as your veterans, you have problems.

Vick sat back and learned from Chandler.
Pennington from Testaverde
Brees from Flutie
Bulger from Warner
Carson Palmer, who WON a heisman, watched and learned from a vet. And he Signed a $33 million contract and didnt play at all

Generally the guys thrown to the wolves are the guys who end up being "Busts" or simply never meet their full potential.

If Coughlin had a choice between Manning and Collins, who do you think he would put in there? There is no way that Manning would be holding a clipboard all season watching Collins take all or the majority of the snaps. Coughlin has pretty much made it known that he isnt high on Collins and he could consider manning one of his guys, whereas Collins is definitely a Fassel guy.

i know that collins is a fassel guy. thats why he is being booted. yeah he's making a lot of money, but coughlin wants to start his own regime by getting rid of the old one, and this is especially true for Kerry.

If Coughlin really had Eli's best interest he would work out a deal for Collins. But he'd rather let Eli suffer for a couple extra seasons rather than ease him in in one.

Well hed also like to have that 8 million of cap room free instead of spending it on a QB who is going to be sitting on the bench all season...Yes it would be good for Eli, which would make it good for the team as a whole, but it would also be good to go out and spend the cap money on players that would surround Eli in order to make his transition from college to the pros more smooth. Players that will help the team in the long run as opposed to Collins who would be a bench warmer for a year.

going back to at least a more general NFL draft topic, does anyone really think the giants had a good draft? I know Snee is pretty good, but i don't know anybody else that they drafted after him and they only got one other OL and he was from Duke. The Giants are just gonna have to play better next year if they really hope to get better. And by that I mean they will have to play like they are not over-priced whiny bitches.
