It seems that there has recently been a pair of bills introduced with the aim of reinstating the draft. i know a few have been introduced in the past, but it seems that in other areas things seem to have been done to make it possible.

$28 million has been added to the 2004 Selective Service System (SSS) budget to prepare for a military draft that could start as early as June 15, 2005. SSS must report to Bush on March 31, 2005 that the system, which has lain dormant for decades, is ready for activation.

My brother Michael has served his country for 8, (or is it 9?) years. He was sent to Bosnia, Germany, France, South Korea, Texas, Louisiana, and possibly even more, but I can't remember. Anyway, being that there has already been a male in the immediate family that has served, and the fact that I am the baby of the family, am I still in the draft? Because my brother told me that I'm not due to his service and the fact that I'm the youngest. I'm dunno, somebody tell me here.

A draft may be likely Considering that they keep adding more soldiers to Iraq, (actually just extending the tours of people there) and that we have very few left in reserve now.

What we need is a strtegy to take the burden off of our forces, either through an exit strategy or through multi-lateralism, or else a vote for Bush will be a vote for a draft in 2006.

If you read the articles they state in them that running to canda does no good because of something the U.S. signed a few years ago with canada, and that going to college doesn't get you out, the best you get is to end the semester if your not a senior, and end the year if you are a senior.
