Lezbians? volume? bits? man on the streets?

radio wars? insults? kindness? callers? guests?

naked women? current events? chemistry?

Think about it. What makes us all dig Ron & Fez?

What do YOU look for in a radio show?
What is RADIO GOLD?

none of the above. Well, some of the above.

To me great radio is when it doesn't feel like you are just sitting there listening to a radio, rather it feels more like you're there just hangin out cracking jokes, and bullshitting.

Ron and Fez have it.
Howard lost it.
Opie and Anthony had it.

The only show in NY that comes close is Wally and the Keeg on ESPN Radio. You listen to that show it really feels like you could be sitting in a bar talking sports and cracking jokes with your boys. Mac and Sid on the FAN is close, but not quite.

An antenna (preferably FM, if you can get AM, that's great.), an amplifier, and some speakers.

With me it's about who I want to spend time with - do I want to listen to a partisan blow hard who is only interested in one set of issues? Do I want someone who only reinforces my beliefs? Do I want a show that tries to give different sides and points of view? Do I want someone who makes me laugh? Do I want to be compelled to listen in the car, even after getting to my destination, even if it's difficult to listen to?

If we learned anything from Conrad Bain...what might be right for you, might not be right for some!

For me...

Stern's divorce show was radio gold, as was his interview with Sharron Osbourne with the Insane Clown Posse. The Miss Butter Face contest from last year, and their drinking shows are always good too. I loved the discussions with his parents.

Don and Mike once asking Tony Curtis if his daughter, Jamie Lee Curtis, was really born a hermaphrodite was radio gold. I also enjoyed something I heard this week, now that I've been forced to defend them: a game show called "My Mother's A Whore," that actually played out very well. The stories of Don's real life brother sueing their parents always amused me, and Buzz doing the news drunk.

Opie and Anthony coming back on the air to discuss Anthony's 3 way and the divorce was gold - them hanging up on Tommy Lee was also pretty funny. The Al Dukes pinball machine was a riot, but I don't remember if that actually played out on O&A or R&F (I guess that was an AFRO moment). Norton and Black Sabbath discussions.

The Sports Junkies reporting on the sniper hitting at a Home Depot 5 miles from my apartment, and about 10 miles from their studio, and them making the decision to stay on the air as Northern Virginia freaked out - that was gold. I also loved their annual countdown to the NFL season, with highlighting a different team every day, right up until the season began. Them outing Jeremy Coleman.

G. Gordon Liddy usually could get me listening when he had liberals on to defend themselves, and he treated them with respect, and actually let them talk - real, open discussions. Of course, once he opened the phone lines, I was out of there!! Liddy broadcasting FROM the Watergate hotel, on the anniversary, was also terrific.

Ron and Fez getting Billy to talk about his fondling of the girl in the car. Mikey D in the car back from the amusement park enjoying some oral favors with SJP's brother, and his recording of "A Boy Named Tim." Recently Fez drunk on his birthday was gold - Fez hypnotized - and Fez's story on once wearing another little boy's underpants in gym class after taking a shower. WB breaking the window of his car is also a classic.

Like I said, it all comes down to who do I want to spend time with. These days there's really only one show that I will clock in for a full 4 hours a day, and that's R&F.

The events leading up to the pinball smashing and the aftermath were on both shows. The smashing of the machine occurred on O&A.

Great radio is freaking out an entire country, making people believe martians landed in Grover's Mill, New Jersey. Orson was definitely the original "shock jock."

Think about it. What makes us all dig Ron & Fez?

What makes 'Good Radio' and what makes us dig R+F are two entirely different things.

What makes 'Good Radio' has been mostly absent from the show since WB took the reins; last night I had to turn the radio off last night after hearing Fez cover for the fifth time after WB cued either the wrong song, or the right song but two minutes before the lyrics come in, for the fifth time.

What makes us dig Ron and Fez? Thats another Q.

To me, good radio has to captivate me a mix of information, humor, politics, speculation and probing discussion about topics I feel passionate about or am intrigued by. I get bothered by a host that seems to not want to get too deep into a discussion.

Since Cam-Daddy put the smack down on Big Ass Cards, and since so much content gets done by listeners of the show, I thought about suggesting to R&F a semi-return to the Big Ass Card model, except call them "Remote Producer Cards."

Available to everyone, not just for the regulars, beginning with a whole new numbering systems, the RPC would be another way to involve listeners to the show, and make fun of Sgt. Spongetongue and WB.

Honesty.

I feel that shows like Howard Stern and Ron and Fez are honest with the listeners. Even Don & Mike are pretty honest with the listeners.

This is one of the reasons that I never really liked O&A. Some of the things that they would say were outright lies.

To me, good radio has to captivate me a mix of information, humor, politics, speculation and probing discussion about topics I feel passionate about or am intrigued by. I get bothered by a host that seems to not want to get too deep into a discussion.

This quote sums up the rest of my reasons.

"Excuse me, excuse me I believe you have my stapler"

Radio gold happens when the radio hosts talk about something that I am thinking about. Like bug planets or lets get rid of all the bugs or when ever the word "diddling" is used or hmmmm... Basically anything Ron and Fez do.

I agree, Howard doesnt seem the same. I dont know why if it's the bullshit that's going on or what, but it has different vibe now to me. I still love him, but it DOES seem more distant to me as a listener. TIME TO BE CORNY and this has been said a million times Im sure, but when Ron and Fez come on, I REALLY feel like my FRIENDS are on the radio, talking to me and other listeners right in the same room. FEZ's VOICE just makes me feel good. Always has, always will. LOVE EM!

lost my pen, damn it. :)

if this makes ANY sense at all....I think CONSISTENCY + SPONTENAITY ( spelling?) TO EXPECT the unexpected....lesbian bits are old to me, I like the risky topics for callers to call in on....or just the WEIRD topics. Hearing what people have to say or have been through and the way Ron and Fez can either RELATE or Turn it into a crack up. They are the GOLD........

lost my pen, damn it.
