From DCRTV:

Junks Lose Friend, Go Silent For A Day - 4/23 - The Junkies won't be doing their WHFS show today (Friday) in tribute to Craig "Crickety" Walden (second from right), 32, who died Thursday from injuries he received in a car accident near Chesapeake Beach. Walden, a frequent contributor to the Junks' show, became friends with the WHFS morning team (and former WJFK-FM evening team) during their college days at the University Of Maryland. More at junkiesradio.com.....

The thing about the Junks that a lot of people liked (or like) was that they really were friends who decided "what they hey" and got together and did a show on public access together.

Jeremy Coleman gave them (there are four of them) a shot on weekends, and a little more than a year later, when the Greaseman left the 7-11 spot, they were put on 5 nights a week.

Some of them have been friends since EARLY elementary school, and many went to college together. "Crickity" was part of their group of friends that loved to get air time, known collectively as "the homies."

(Yes...the Junks are white, but they did grow up in PG county!)

They weren't like regular hangers on to radio shows - people who may have a little bit of fame, or were once listeners and became friends. They really were real life friends with each other.

I haven't been able to listen to them much since they left WJFK a year and a half ago and went mornings at WHFS. I did hear a few minutes of the show earlier in the week, and remember how much I did like them in the evenings. A perfect line-up at JFK would have either them or Ron and Fez doing middays, with the other show in the evenings.

Anyway - it's always sad to hear something like this, especially to someone young (he was married about 3 years ago), even if you don't know them.

That's sad news.
I heard on my way to work this morning.

It feels like a friend died, cause i've been listening to the show regularly since they moved to HFS.

Rest in peace Crickety.

I was working in Bowie, MD for a while, and got hooked on that show. One night I was in a TGIFridays having a few drinkies and telling the bartender how cool of a show it was. He started laughing- it turned out he was the brother of one of them (forgot which).

Anyway the show is awesome, sorry to hear about their friend.

That's really too bad. I enjoyed the hell out of the Junks' show when it was on WJFK, and I actually thought Crickety was a fulltime member of the staff.

R.I.P., budday.

Damn, that is sad. I used to dig the Junkies, but lost track of them for a while.

Havin' a Scotch in remembrance.

You are a bad person.
