Ok I saw my younger Bro today; he lets out he dislocated his shoulder, he's ex-Mountain Rescue dude, dont ask, I'll ramble forever; so he tells me he was kayaking the usual insanity and rolled and forgot to tuck his arms in to recover and rip out it comes. Even an MD on scene couldnt get it in, so 45 minutes to hospital with That pain [dont know it; hear its bad] and they have to him him with the Morphine, on the table face down, and the MDs grabbing his scapula and shoving away.

I cut the fuck out of my finger and the damage is small, but permanent. 8 stitches, no Biggie, but:

What was you last major injury? I dont know if illness counts; unless it's acute. A good, solid slash knock, hit, whatever. Doesnt have to be hospital to be good; last time I feel off a stool drunk I woke up with an egg in the back of my skull, no Hospital, but fucking A I think I was gonna die.

Older Bro destroyed his rotator cuff on a 'Come On Dad, Just One More run' on the mogul slope; but they wanted to do it Tubing, and he went up and Boom; destroyed; rescue skiers and MD on scene and all that; pins and all. Ow.

And please dont guilt me out for making this with a heart wrenching one. Shark attack, maybe.

hanging a phone wire from some dude's house to a pole, my partner is stopping traffic, the wire is in the street, and 80 year old guy hits him, pulling all the slack in the line causing it to literally break my finger off. it was hanging on by a thread. kinda looked like a broken pez dispenser. they sewed it back on the nail looks awful to this day. my lawyer says this is a good thing. $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

1987 - head-on collision 'sort of'(guy came into our lane skidding sideways, i never saw him cause it was at night, dark car, couldn't see headlights, his car traveling/skidding at a very high rate of speed)
so i never even hit the brake

for me

> no seatbelt
> fractured jaw and lost 7 teeth after kissing the steering wheel
> approx 12 stitches on knee, 12 on hand
> severely sprained ankle

wife

> no seatbelt
> alot of glass to forehead, lost one eyebrow. had glass coming out intermittently for over one year
> bruised chest, luckily she has alot of cushion in that area 'yumyum' :)
> deep cut to shin, basically a hole like 3 inches in diameter
> back - experienced herniated disk and wind up having it operated on successfully

other guy

> DOA

since then 'knock on wood' not too much

I was at a party a couple of years ago and was jumping on the trampoline with jon. We collided and his thick head smashed into my mouth. my bottom teeth went through my lower lip. there was blood everywhere. I had to get about 5-6 stitches, which I've never had before.

Nothing really major, but last year I actually fell out of bed and landed on my head. I ended up knocking some discs in my neck out of alignment. As a result, I missed about a week of work and had to go to the chiropractors' office twice a week for two months. Quacks or not, they sure made me feel a lot better... plus they helped me meet my deductible on my insurance.

The only real major injury I can think of was about two years ago. I was on my next door neighbor's trampoline. I jumped up, acting like a jackass, and my knee ends up smashing into my jaw. I'm left with 8 of my front teeth chipped, the worst one damaged right to the nerve. Luckily, it wasn't too serious, but it hurt like crazy. I don't ever feel that again.

I've taken many, many falls, but none of them ever really serious. The other day I was fooling around with my scooter. Anyway, I tried a disaster (foreshadowing) to barspin fakie out. I lost control, and I flew up about 4 feet in the air before landing on my back. Just a few scrapes. Nothing major. I've had a lot of those falls though.

Mike, I have had a subluxing shoulder since I was 12 when there was a house fire down my street in the middle of the winter. The street was a sheet of glass and I slipped and fell, putting my arm out to break the fall and my arm ripped out of the shoulder socket. Ever since, anytime my arm is up above my head and I lose balance or try and break my fall or hop over a fence or anything that puts strain on it in a certain way will usually cause it to pop out. Ive even had it come out of the socket in my sleep! I hate the feeling of it when it happens and one time I was swimming when it happened and I grabbed my shoulder and it was just a hollow of flesh. My arm bone was inside my back. Thank god I never had any major injuries like deep punctures or broken bones.
Near when I work there are these young guys on skateboards and I see them trying to ride along this low wall after they leap off the ground with the board and I see them smashing themselves silly and they keep getting up and doing it. I wonder what theyll be able to do once they hit 40.

Do you do that trick like Riggs did in Lethal Weapon 2 when he popped his arm out to get out of the crazy-people's jacket?

In November, my ankle swelled up and I couldn't walk on it. I went to see a specialist and he saw some spots on my x-rays. The one he didn't like was about 6 inches up from my ankle on my tibia. He sent me for a CAT scan immediatly because he thought it could be bone cancer. Turned out to be a bone spur. Unusual because I never had any trauma to that part of my leg. I also have a spur on my heel and one on my ankle along with severe tendonitis. I still don't have full range of motion without pain.

Yeah, thats exactly what he said it'll be like from now on. Hes a big guy, and they really had to work on him to get it back in, so maybe that means less chance.

Whoever mentioned the straight-jacket thingy; I believe Houdini and others do indeed dislocate themselves to get out. Actually I guy I met once does it; James "The Amazing" Randi; he known for other stuff, but did you ever see the Happy Days episode where the Magician dude is in a straight jacket, and then drinks vodka and passes out? Thats him. Used to live in Monmouth County, NJ. One of the best.

Oh, and the Phrenic Nerve; thats Bad. Thats the one you hope and pray stays intact when you break your back, or a cervical vert; coz if that one goes, you wont be breathing on your own, and they say thats the real huge 'quality of life' divide with people who suffer that. Ugh.

My cousin got stabbed 30th Street Station; Philly Once. He was ok, but still. Ack.

probably last major injury (other than getting cuts that probably would've only needed a few stitches) was 4 years ago when I broke the growth plate in my ankle (it's in the ball of your ankle). I had to wear a caste for like 2 months and was able to use my school's elevator.

EDIT: Oh fuck, actually just last year I broke my finger because i "caught" a football vertically off the tip of my right middle finger. I also actually caught the ball when it bounced off my finger but essentially i fucked up the tendons or something. Only a soft hand caste for a month.
