Literally? No, of course not. Because they're over there. But metaphorically? You better fucking believe it.

And again, as it was said, we chose to go to THEM. Now that somehow obligates us to "nuke 'em" because they resist said invasion? And don't give me any "our intentions were good" horseshit. If they didn't want us there in the first place, wishes don't make for shit. It was a pipe-dream and we're paying the price. Doesn't make celebrating someone's violent death OK, but quit acting like it's such a shock when this happens when so many people there mistrust and fear us and didn't want us there from the start and were VERY clear on that from the get-go, and like this kind of clusterfuck is a BIG surprise because "we're just trying to help" because, hey, tough shit, they don't want it. AND, quit pretending like there aren't plenty of Americans who wouldn't get a real sick, giddy thrill out of a bunch of dead Iraqis, and haven't already.

Does the US news media choose to air this kind of footage to just add fuel to the fire and make us want to hate them?

I hate to see that anyones death is celebrated by anyone but and I agree with Mojo's statement that there are plenty who would dance all over the corpses of a dead (insert enemy here). There are scum and uncivilized everywhere who have that kind of lack of respect.

Not like I am trying to vindicate what goes on over there when such actions of dancing and celebrating death goes on but how much is aired on our airwaves of the good things that happen over there or any type of area of conflict. Not much from my vantage point. I could be wrong though. I wish more of the good news (if there is indeed any) could be portrayed like the bad.

And just for the record, wouldn't the impact of a nuclear bomb and "flattening" the area over there have some kind of detrimental effect on not only our atmosphere but the atmosphere over Europe and many of our allies in region. Statements like "kill 'em all" and 'carpet bomb" those bastards disgutes(sp?) me. A bit ingorant I would say.

Please don't lump me in with the 'nuke em crowd. I have nothing against The Iraqi's. I'm flat out against this war, that's been my stance since the beginning.

My point is when I see them celebrating our deaths...its just sad...they hate us that much...they don't even know the American people...they just hate our figurehead and his politics....

people hating an entire country for thier politics...forgetting the fact that we have a large middle eastern population in this country...forget the fact that many are outspoken agains the war...but they'll never know that...they'll just be spoon fed how much we suck and how much we deserve to die...

Please don't lump me in with the 'nuke em crowd. I have nothing against The Iraqi's.
If you're addressing me, I wasn't lumping you into that crowd. But I was pointing them out because there isn't a difference between the "nuke em/bomb them all" crowd and the "dance over dead bodies" crowd that you pointed out among Arabs. The sentiment is the same. The difference is that most of the Americans in that category sit in comfortable houses (or trailers) and ask their soldiers to go overseas to do their killing for them. The people we see on TV desecrating bodies and dancing over the deaths of soldiers are people without a military; they do it themselves and they celebrate it because they aren't disciplined soldiers. They are wrong and those that did the killing deserve to be caught and punished for it, or killed if necessary. But the capacity to wish death on foreigners is everywhere, as is shown here.

What I objected to in your original post is the focus on these infrequent events as though they were representative of the conduct of the Iraqi people as a whole. If you had clicked on one of the articles linked on the one you posted you would have seen the results of a poll of Iraqis that showed that the majority of them want us there. A professionally conducted poll of Iraqis is a better assessment of what they think of us than the most sensational images that appear on the news.

I also object object to suggesting we hang the president. I mean come on. That certainly goes in the same category with the others.

Why do you object? He plunged our country into war, wasted billions of dollars fighting it and will continue to waste billions in maintenance of it.

I mean if you want a list of horrible decisions this president has made during his presidency....

And who took that poll? Can we even confirm it was ever made? Who knows where those results come from...I can doctor every poll on this messageboard with ease...who's to say a government official slipped the poll to a cnn web correspondent and said "put this up?"

I know if it was me, I wouldn't like to be invaded, no matter how great the invader says his intentions are...

I don't think there's any reason to suspect the poll was a government plant. Aside from the usual problems with that kind of conspiracy theory, I've talked to dozens of Iraqis and none of them want us out. They want us to help them like we promised. They have the same complaints about the handling of the post-war situation, and they worry about the future of Iraq, but none of them have called for a pull-out.

Yes, just like the people we're "liberating" one week are the "enemy" the next.

Here's the biggest problem: Iraq is NOT a third world country. They had museams and utilities and commerce and culture, at least before we bombed the shit out of them and let them loot each other and live under anarchy for a month after the occupation started.

If we really wanted to help, we would let them get back to work, and rebuild thier own infrastructure, but Dick Cheney won't let them, and isn't going to do anything until Haliburton can start rebuilding. The reason over 100 soldiers died last year, and countless others that the MEDIA WON'T REPORT have become disfigured, disabled, lost limbs, etc; falls squarely on the shoulders of Dick Cheney's greed.

Show me otherwise, because I'd love to pretend our leaders care about more than $$$, too.

I think the problem is that our solider are soliders, not cops. They're trained to win battles, just go in and kick the shit out of another country (which they did). But now they're being used to police 25 million people with a completely different culture from there's, including Baghdad, a city of almost 6 Million.

This is what those against the war meant when they said that the administration had no plan for rebuilding Iraq. We all knew that our Army would destroy the Iraqis, but then what?

While turning the Middle East into a giant Six Flags may make perfect sense to us as Americans, you can't forget the hatred it would inspire in every other country in the world. Certainly no one would condone it. Such actions would only spawn the same hatred the Arab world has for us in hundreds of other countries. Now, in a vacuum situation, it's an excellent theory. Kinda like communism. It simply looks good on paper, but in practice? That's another story.

If you want to know more about how we are and should deal with an insurgency I posted some articles from the military's experts in this thread. It isn't a "kill em all" or "do nothing" situation.

OK well...what are these options that you speak of? So far I havent seen you suggest one option, all youve actually said is that Im a psycho that just wants to wipe out a country of what you describe as being full of innocent, peace loving people. What are these options?

Well, I never said it was full of peace loving people, but most of them are innocent. And I'm not a military planner, but I'm sure there are other option than nukes or carpet bombing. But, in lieu of a lengthier reply proving you are a psycho, I'll just post a quote of yours:

Im just saying I like the idea of bombing the crap out of them.

Yeah, pretty pictures and cheap gas prices. Who cares how many innocent people die?

Come on. You can't really think this, can you? We initiated this. You have to accept that there will be resistance, and knowing this part of the world you have to expect the kind of things we've seen. There are some very sick fucking people out there, and this is a big opportunity for them. Just picking up and leaving now would almost hand the country to Islamic extremists. Going apeshit and leveling Iraq would be just the recruitment tool Al Qaeda needs, an an actual World War 3 could then be inevitable. But this isn't about making us feel better right now, it's about building Iraq and keeping it out of terrorists hands, like it was before we invaded. :(

While turning the Middle East into a giant Six Flags may make perfect sense to us as Americans

I guess I'm in a different America.

And no, I'm not expecting everyone in the country to think like me, but come on...that was a ridicuously huge overstatement.

Im just saying I like the idea of bombing the crap out of them.

So quit acting so uppity over some of THEM being glad when some of OURS are dead.

Oh get serious. You're gonna tell me you'd rather the Middle East be in the current disasterous state of instability and murder that it's in right now than have it be a splendid haven for rollercoasters, deep fried food, and cheap prizes?

That's not any different than it was before we got there.

Except before, none of our people were in the middle of it getting killed.

What's REALLY changed?

Another thorough look at the reconstruction process to date from Anthony Cordesman of CSIS (http://www.csis.org/features/iraq_oneyearon.pdf). ( in PDF - 43 pages long, but the executive summary is only a couple)

I always considered Iraq more like Hershey Park in PA.
Except it's oil instead of chocolate. The women and kids don't like it as much, but it sure as hell turns on a lot of old white wealthy men on both sides of the party aisle.

Hmmm, is there a "Burning Wasteland Where People Want To Kill You Park," cause that's what I think Iraq is most like.

Is that EuroDisney?
