No big shock that Stern surged, after being in the media so much. Ditto with D&M, at least locally. Good to see R&F moving in the right direction again.

(For those of you out of the DC area - WTOP is the all news station, and ever since 9/11 and the war has been a juggernaught here in Washington).

Stern Can't Dethrone TOP - 4/27 - Indecency fine-plagued Howard Stern did post a gain in DC's Arbitron radio ratings (out today), but he didn't knock all-news WTOP out of its first place position in AM drive. Among the advertiser friendly age 25-54 demo, WTOP's Mike Moss and Richard Day placed 1st with a 7.9 share, with WMMJ's Tom Joyner in 2nd with a 5.9. WJFK-FM's Stern was 3rd (up from 5th), WRQX's Jack Diamond 4th, and WPGC-FM's Donnie Simpson 5th. In middays, same demo, WJFK's mix of Ron and Fez and Bill O'Reilly soared from 10th to 2nd, just behind WJZW. Rush Limbaugh on WMAL placed 14th. In PM drive, also 25-54, WTOP took 1st, with WJFK-FM's Don and Mike up from 4th to 2nd. In evenings, same demo, WJFK's Ron and Fez placed 11th, up from 16th. The age 12+, full-week numbers: 1) WPGC-FM, 2) WTOP, 3) WMMJ, 4) WGMS, 5) WKYS, 6) WJZW and WHUR, 8) WMZQ and WASH, 10) WIHT, 11) WMAL, 12) WBIG and WRQX, 14) WJFK-FM and WWDC, 16) WARW, 17) WWZZ-WWVZ, 18) WTEM, 19) WHFS, 20) WBZS-WBPS and WAVA.

I hate that R&F have to be lumped in with O'Reilly. I really wish JFK would be brave where Bill is concerned, and remove his saggy ass off the station. He just doesn't fit in. Give the full 4 hours to R&F!!!

Still...it's nice bragging rights to be beating Rush, here in the Nation's Capital!! They haven't been able to do that since Don and Mike were in the middays.

I am a little surprised the numbers aren't better at nights, but HEY! It's the right direction, again.

CONGRATS BUDDIES!!!!!

thanks, radio boy :P

yeah, that's great... also, I think R&F have got to be a big reason for the 2nd place in middays. I guess there are a lot of people here that listen to O'reilly too though, every once in a while when I switch it over there I hear a whole bunch of calls from the area.

Still, with the fastest hour being somewhat political and very "news-ish", I think a lot of people can listen to it at work, and do.

Too bad everyone but WJFK likes R&F.

Hopefully this will wake WJFK/Infinity up , and give RnF a nice contract along with syndication and support and respect. But knowing that station and that company it probably wouldnt matter. incompetence and stupidity thats what infinity is all about.

RAWK.

Nice job, buddays. We've got the faith, even if those you're working for don't.

NICE!

Awesome job. No doubt the 2nd place has a huge deal to do with RnF, and even if 11th doesn't sound too great its still up 5 spots from last ratings.

DCRTV did throw a bit of cold water on the midday news, in the letters section, by pointing out that the "midday" ratings chunk is actually 10am - 3pm, which includes Stern at 10 / R&F at 11 / O'Reilly at Noon / and a D&M replay at 2pm. All you need is Larry Michael, Pat Goss and El Jefe doing commercials and you have JFK in a nut shell.

Also, there was another letter about the possibility of R&F leaving WJFK, and Dave "DCRTV" Hughes had this to say, which I thought was a good point that hadn't been addressed:

R&F are "insurance" for Alan Leinwand. He can say to D&M, kiss my ass or I'll replace your asses at a moment's notice with R&F. If R&F go to Tampa, Alan loses a "big stick" for keeping D&M "in line."

VERY TRUE!

Ron and Fez are in a really good position to get a good payday out of this. With these ratings in hand, and the possibility of somewhere else to go, their agent might be able to get them the respect they deserve.

Huzzah!

I just hope this means syndication to New York. I've always felt they would make a good fit on K-Rock.

My ideal thoughts for the shows syndication would be to have them broadcast from New York, Philly, DC and Florida where I think with fans and friends of the show in all those cities, it would be great for the show and their success if that were to happen.

I think reef hit it right on. Being back in NYC on KROCK would be great. The thing with their show is that it really benifits from being live because it is so caller driven. So a replay would not be fair to them. They may have to be live at a later time, or maybe KROCK would shuffle come programming and start to become more of a talk based station. i have no clue what their ratings look like now.
Also, ron and fez as a show has changed a lot from the NYC days. It is way more politcal talk based and geared to D.C., which says a lot about ron and fez because they are able to adapt to a totally new world and still get great ratings.
Anyway, it would be interesting to see which show they would do, as well as how the ratings would go.

When D&M tried to come to NYC, miserable failure. When O&A tried to go to DC, they were starting to pick up some people, but were still low in the ratings. I do not remember how long they were on there though. Either way, the DC market and NYC market seem to like 2 different types of shows. But who knows, if anyone can make it work I think it would be ron and fez. And this is not even considering florida as a city!

I do remember that RnF were beating Krock back when they were in NYC doing nights. But Syndicating RnF to Krock(NY) and Florida, would make way too much sense. Which means unfortunatly that it will not happen. Infinity stinks on ice.

This was how DC fans had to enjoy them for a good chunk of time - tape delayed 11pm - 3am, no matter when they were on in NY.

Also, ron and fez as a show has changed a lot from the NYC days. It is way more politcal talk based and geared to D.C., which says a lot about ron and fez because they are able to adapt to a totally new world and still get great ratings.

The only thing really political is "The Fastest Hour," and often that is entertainment driven. I imagine there would be a lot of politics if they were in NY, considering this is an election year and all - after all, Stern has gotten political, and he's all over the country, and based out of NY (actually, very few of the political radio shows are based out of DC).

Both D&M and O&A could have found their audiences if they had been left on long enough. Don and Mike were actually much higher than what they were given credit for in NY; NY, though, is a tough market because there is always a lot riding on the success, and the pressure from O&A, and the general implosion, and they were out. Opie and Anthony took a #1 timeslot in DC and drug it down to #18, with no real sign of improvement. Still, if Sex for Sam hadn't happened, WJFK would have weathered them out for awhile longer, though, and let them build their listeners which they were slowly doing.

The real question was not DC but other markets that O&A were starting to slip in, including New York (people like to forget that), which, while huge, was not what it was. Boston and Philly were strong, but others, like Cleveland and others, were not.

In any event, Stern has proven his kind of show can work well in New York and Washington and Philly and anywhere else.

I do agree with you, though - while R&F will never have Stern numbers, there are listeners waiting for them in any and all markets.

O&A were at least a little higher than #18 on WJFK when they were booted...I mean, it was only like #16 or so, but still, it was something.
