Holy Moly I heard about it on the radio but when I went over my Moms she had taped Regis [shes 70; thats like Prime Time, ya know?] and they showed the video of, I believe an NBC News Chopper lose control somewhere in NYC, hit a corner of a building, crash, and then ten seconds later you see one of the three walking drunkenly or like someone who.. just fucking went down in a chopper.
Anyone have a link to the Video, or this Story?
Holy Moly that was Amazing; it looks like what saved then was they sorta hit this building corner, and *then* the chopper fell the rest of the way, as opposed to slamming right in, and...
I'm no expert, but I epected to see a big *WHOOMP* as the fuel ignited.
Apologies if already a thread; I looked at actives, didnt see it.
This hits home, my dad was a pilot for NY Airways; yah I bore everyone with that, but hell, he knew, unlike planes, these babies dont Glide Well.
AMAZING Video. Anyone?

fuckin A thats a lot to get Ratings! Maybe make a REAL Reality Show. Put up ten choppers; one has a hole in the fuel line... ok thats bad.
anyway i'm watching it now; at one point that chopper was heading down almost vertically nose down at high speed; if the pilot hadnt recovered from THAT; I think they would have had to use a spatula to get the bodies.
It *looks* like a tail rotor failure at the end. The chopper is spinning counter-clockwise the whole way down on final; just as if it failed, although it can be seen spinning. Maybe the engine just lost it.
Walking away from that Id be heading to a church, or a Bar. Not sure.

I saw a mention on TV that every single news helecopter crash in our area has been an NBC News helecopter.
Can you imagine, being the next NBC reporter told to get get in the chopper and get a story?
It must be worse than the walk of shame--it's the walk down death row!
I can almost HEAR the radio bit:
Ron: "Get in the Chopper!"
Fez: "But I don't WANT to get in the chopper!"
Ron: "We need the story, Fez. Get in the chopper!"
Fez: "But I CAN'T get in the chopper!..."

It happened in Brooklyn. Not that far from me. My wife was on her way home from work. The bus she was on was completely rerouted and there were other helicopters all over the entire area.

I heard that it was a drug deal gone awry (that's right, awry). Well my father (who's a cap'n in the NYPD) was on the scene and he saw the chopper comin right for him. I guess luckily for both the people inside the chopper and my dad that the pilot was able to steer it just enough to survive and not crash into the ground. AND it was my dad's birthday. Good times.

I saw it this morning. they were showing how it hitting the brick chimney or wall on top of that building helped reduce the impact when it hit the ground and most likely saved their lives...
I don't like helicopters. our company(Dow Jones) helicopter went down in the East River , my cousin was killed in a Navy helicopter crash(non-combat) and left a wife and two young children.

I saw that on the news that night and they showed it a bunch of times plus video of the other NBC chopper that went down in the Passaic River a few years ago.
That pretty much sealed it for me. Never getting in a helicopter.

The wierdest thing was how the pilot and the crew just kinda got out and looked around to see if anyone had noticed...kinda funny how embarrasment can make you temporarily block out all pain. Like in dodge ball when you were a kid.

Yea I saw that crash how the choper was spinning out of controll and then crashed into that building, pretty nuts how they lived!

This newest crash with the news choppers that's all over CNN. I read recently that they're trying to convict the guy the police were chasing, and the choppers were reporting, with something to do with the deaths related to the crashes. The guy deserves to do time for whatever they were chasing him for, and evading police, but any kind of manslaughter charges is crazy.

I was thinking that, too. If a cop was killed or injured during the chase, then yes... the guy is responsible. It's the police department's DUTY to chase the guy. But it's not the reporter's duty to follow him. They had a choice to not be up there.
