It's thunderin' and lightnin' here in NYC.
I love these spring thunderstorms. The louder the thundercrack... the better!!

They kind of scare me at night when I'm alone. Otherwise, they're pretty cool.
My dog used to freak out and hide in the bathtub during thunderstorms.

The smaller of my two dogs freaks out and has to sit/sleep on my lap. Otherwise, I don't mind as long as I don't lose power.

my part of town seems to lose power for everyone of these storms. i love to watch them, but once the power goes out i get pissed. its pouring right now at work and i get to leave early today, but i don't feel like going to my car and then driving in the huge puddles.

My mom's office (Hawthorne, NY) was without power all afternoon from this. They finally let them go home. I'll be so pissed if we lose power when I get home.

I heard north NJ and parts of NY were slammed yesterday afternoon/last night.
Some Cool Websites with Real-Time Doppler Reflectivity readings: scary to see whats going on around you on the computer:
The Philly Nexrad covers just about the whole area around me, NYC and down almost to WJFK ville, may take a minute to load on dial-up, as it is graphics heavy, scroll down to see the activity:

It's getting really, really dark over NYC right now and the temperature has dropped about 10 degrees.
On the Philly NEXRAD, there is a big red dot over us.
I'm glad I brought my scuba gear.

Yeah Weather Underground is cool; I get that 'I'm on my laptop and I'm in Kansas and there goes Bill Paxton and Helen Hunt in a Truck while Van Hagar is playing.
Ok maybe not, but still, its been rumbling here quiet nicely, bright now, but it's that bright thats an almost yellowish-black; i know that sounds weird but thats what it looks like.
Ok there goes another big thunder. Yes, this scared the piss out of me as a kid. And now, for some reason; I can sleep through it, and i'm a pretty light sleeper.

It was really weird in NJ (like when is it NOT weird)
But seriously, at my work there were thunderclaps, next town over it was pouring out and then you go 5 mins east and the sun was shining and no rain whatsoever.
But as I started to head back to work I was on Rt 46 in fairfield... and as I was heading south I saw about 6 bolts of lightning hit the West Caldwell/Parsippany area in a span of 2 minutes.
It was amazing to see.
And yes it was 2 nights ago and Central NJ got SLAMMED with a lightning storm. It was about 30 mins of nothing but lightning then the rain came.
I thought I was gonna see a guy out my window calling in the animals by two.
This weather sure has been weird lately.
I do not care if there is a thunderstorm as long as I do not lose power also (like Jon said), As long as I can read or watch a movie or at least cook dinner or whatnot as the storm rages over....so be it.
But the rain was a bitch and a half to drive thru.
It got to the point where some people and trucks had to pull over the side of the road.

Bowie, Md.: Berkeley, I'm so glad you're back!; I've really missed The Far Side all these years.
Berkeley Breathed: Yes, thank you, but I don't draw Far Side. I draw Calvin and Hobbes.

Anyone else had a headache like the one I had when this front came in?
I have three Barometers [dont ask] and, as usual, when the front went through, the pressure just fell like off a cliff; ouch. Thump. Thump. I can take my pulse right now just sitting here.

I like nothing better than sitting in my Sunroom, or even in the garage, when the shit hits.
Sit there w/ a cool brew and watch mother nature do her thing.
Whenever it's possible,(not too often, anymore) nothing beats the beach during a storm!

Yes, and it sucked!
Other than that, thunderstorms very cool. Especially with a water view.

That's what I did, minus the cold brew part. Gotta love those brand new oak rockers I got from the great people down in Lancanster County Pa. Yes, that's right. The hard working Amish who sell furniture for low prices. You can find these friendly Amish all around Lancaster County. They are always willing to make you QUALITY furnature that look great in the end.
