View Full Version : Next time Kerry rails about heartless Republicans-

...bring this to his attention...
"The Senate on Tuesday rejected by a single vote Sen. Maria Cantwell's amendment to provide extended federal unemployment benefits to 47,000 Washington workers and more than 1 million others nationwide...
...the only senator who missed the vote was Sen. John Kerry of Massachusetts, the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, who was campaigning in Kentucky."
Way to go dopey.

Pure politics. These are the kind of tricks the ruling party will pull on members of Congress from the other party who are running for bigger office. If kerry showed up, the Republicans would have pulled one of their yes votes and this still wouldn't have passed.

Agreed. However, he's getting paid to be a Senator (my Senator in particular since I am from Massachusetts) and I'd like him to do a little work considering our senior Senator is probably face down in a blonde right now. I don't expect him to be there for every vote - though it would be smarter of him not to provide the opposition with ammunition like this.

I read he has actually shown up about 25% of the time to vote.

Where did you read this?
And why does nobody have a problem with the people who actually voted AGAINST this bill, if it's so "terrible" Kerry didn't vote at all?

But the decisive vote against the amendment was apparently cast by Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell, R-Colo., who had earlier told Cantwell he supported extending federal unemployment benefits for an additional 13 weeks.
Is it possible that he knew/was told that there were enough votes and by the time Campbell switched sides on the vote, it was too late?

Well, I guess I could say since there is an ongoing-war, a prisoner-abuse scandal and such, that it would be a good idea for President Bush to do something other than drive around Ohio in a bus for a few days.
It's a Presidential campaign. I won't hold it against either of them, even though I wish they both didn't have to take off so much time.

When Bob Dole was running for president, he quit the Senate so he could run for president and someone could be there who could actually vote on issues. If Kerry wants to run for president, quit the Senate so his constiutients don't get screwed by him not voting for anything.

It is not the article I read but here is Kerry's voting record in the senate and what happened

He quit the Senate because he was 10,000 years old.

You're thinking of Robert Byrd. Oh wait, he doesn't have the sense to retire.

Cantwell said the tax bill would provide $3 billion in tax credits for the oil and gas industry, $2.3 billion for the coal industry, $451 for bourbon distillers, $233 for cruise ship companies and $4 million for archery manufacturers.
Now THAT'S a tragedy.

And the Democrats don't have the sense to burn him at the stake.
I cringed every time they called out Strom Thurmond, just because they had Byrd on their team.

We need to preserve the fine tradition of having a former KKK member in the Senate.

I'm not quite sure I follow....
Let's see........
John Kerry misses a vote, so that means Republicans aren't heartless anymore.
I just don't follow.
Must've been that logic I took in college.

He misses practically every vote. See the link I gave. And to me it is important because I am currently unemployed since January.

So...your problem is ONLY with Kerry, and not the 40+ people who actually voted against this bill?
Any Republicans in that bunch?

this is the Al Gore syndrome. If Nader hadn't draw a a few hunfred people from Gore, and Gore would have won FL and then the presidency. Bullshit. If Gore had been a better candidate, nader wouldn't have mattered
Same with this. If kerry had shown up, it would have passed. Bullshit, if the senate had debated better, more would have voted for it and kerry's vote wouldn't have mattered.

Now dat's what I'm talkin bout! Gore lost because he lost, not because Nader or the electoral college or the Supreme Court. He should have been able to crush Bush, who had almost nothing to show that he was qualified to be president. Gore ran a stupid campaign. And he's a replicant.

Agree, if a candidate can not even will their own home state that person shouldn't even be president
