one way or the other? Right now, I'm still on the fence-

For me to vote for Bush it would take all of the following factors:

no terrorist attacks on our soil between now and Election day.

Gas prices drop to under $1.60

We are for the most part, out of Iraq. And the country is fairly stable (as stable as a war torn Middle Eastern country could be anyhow).

For all the problems in Iraq, we are still taking the task of fighting terrorism head on.

We begin mending fences with at least some of our former 'close' friends in the international community (fuck france).

I will be happy to drop a few of the above though if OBL is caught.

I'd vote for Kerry if Bush fucks up all of the above and:

He picks a strong running mate and indicates strong leaders to fill the rest of the cabinet.

Demonstrates a willingness to combat international terrorism.

I was at my aunts this weekend, and there was a newspaper from switzerland which stated that Osama had been caught, but the US had been holding him till later on in the year and closer to the elections. As to how legitimate this is, is another question. There was a picture in there of Osama in some kind of custody, but this is the french we are talking about.

Here is the french version:
TERRORISME Mohamed Sifaoui sur les traces du chef de d'al-Qaida dans CHARG du Pakistan OUSSAMA BEN ARRET EN SECRET ? La FRANCE le journaliste alg‚rien estime possible que les Am‚ricains tiennent d‚j… le chef d'islamist, mais qu'ils l'indiquera seulement bien avant les ‚lections pr‚sidentielles

and here is the english version:

TERRORISM Mohamed Sifaoui on the traces of the d'al-Qaida chief in Pakistan OUSSAMA BEN LADEN STOPPED IN SECRECY? FRANCE the Algerian journalist estimates possible that the Americans hold already the islamist chief, but qu'ils will only reveal right it before the presidential elections

I don't think its possible for him to accomplish all that, but I also don't think he's gonna totally fuck up the entire list.

I also don't think that Kerry is going to find himself a great running mate.

All I'm trying to say is that it seems as if your vote is Bush's to lose, and that he has to do a whole lot to lose it. Not that it isnt possible.

ok, let's give Bush a chance. He'd have to:

1. Take the exclusive contracts away from Halibutun subsidiaries and let the Iraqi people go back to work rebuilding thier infrastructure

2. Apologize to the UN and ask for support, thereby taking the "American face" off of the occupation force, allowing a good percentage of reservists to come home

3. Repeal his tax cuts on the top 1%, which would boost the economy and create both competition and jobs

4. burn the Patriot act

5. Keep "no child left behind" but actually fund the schools that he's putting these strict mandates on.

6 Renounce any and all attempts to write bigotry, in any form, into the constitution.

7. Investigate Saudi Arabia for thier involvement in 9/11. Note I said "investigate," and not "level."

8. Stop threatening countries with Nukes.

He does these things? Sure, I'll vote for him, because then he'd be showing signs of sanity...

OK, maybe you have a point about Kerry. But we know what Bush has done in just 4 years. I'm not impressed, I'm fucking scared. Kerry might not "change the world", but we know that Bush definately won't (well, he won't change it in the positive direction). At least there is a small chance that Kerry will do something constructive.

Another point is that maybe with a new President, America can start rebuilding the international bridges that Bush has burnt.

Doesn't it scare you that we are fighting a war with Iraq even though some of the best military strategists advised against it. This administration heeded no warnings and made no exit strategies before invading Iraq. And now we are stuck.

We will fail in our bid to make Iraq a democracy. Just like you can't make an alcoholic stop drinking unless he wants to. You can make a country be a democracy unless they want to be one. That kind of change needs to come from within.

"Excuse me, excuse me I believe you have my stapler"

Both Bush and Kerry would make useless presidents. Although I am worried that his ultra-liberal constituency may gain power by his election, Kerry certaintly couldn't do any worse than Bush has so far. I'm a New Yorker, so Kerry will get my state's electoral votes without my showing up to vote. I would change my opinion only if Bush makes a strong effort between now and November to enforce a solution to the Palestinian problem that Israel could live with.

I am a bit politically ignorant here so excuse me.

I just want to know when is the President (whomever it may be) going to concentrate on the homeland. Aren't there enough growing problems in this country that have a little bit more of a priority than over in the Middle East. It just seems that there is too much focus over there and not over here.

this is my honest opinion: we need to go the route of a lot of european nations and have multiple parties. this 2 party demcracy is garbage- they serve the same interests.

Bingo. And us being limited to two "real" parties is something this country has really only been subject to since the Great Depression. The rest of our history, there was usually at least a good half dozen viable parties at any given time. There's no logical reason why our only two "legitimate" choices should be Republican or Democrat.

Everyone honestly look at yourself and your beliefs, and then look at the party that supposedly "represents" you. How well do they actually reflect what you believe? I'd lay good money probably 75% of the voting public isn't TRULY behind their pledged party when you get right down to it.

And fluff, sadly, it seems we get either or when it comes to our modern presidents (At least since LBJ)...our presidents are either focused on domestic issues OR foreign issues, with little in-between. Look at LBJ, Carter and Clinton...focused primarily on domestic issues (The first and third guys having spectacular results), while American foreign affairs suffered tremendous losses. Then look at Nixon, Reagan and the first Bush...almost the exact opposite. Very noticeable and impressive US foreign policy expansion, but pretty abyssmal track records back "at home."

Don't blame me....I voted for Kodos.
I look forward to an orderly election that will eliminate the need for a violent bloodbath. </center>

It would take a third of the liberals in NY saying that they will vote for Bush in order to make me vote for Kerry. It just doesn't make much sense to vote for him in a "blue state" unless you really feel so behind him that you want to make that gesture. I'm gonna vote for someone who isn't Kerry or Bush and actually has a party backing them up. People say that's a wasted vote, but voting for Kerry in NY is wasting a vote in my mind.

However, if I lived in a "battleground state" it would really depend on who Kerry was running with if i would vote for him. The way I figure it, if he had Clark, Edwards, Richardson, Graham, Kucinich (in my dreams), Dean (also in my dreams), or Nelson on the ticket I'd definitely give him my vote.

And Gephardt would lose him my vote. Because men that look like moles shouldn't be VP.

Bingo. And us being limited to two "real" parties is something this country has really only been subject to since the Great Depression. The rest of our history, there was usually at least a good half dozen viable parties at any given time. There's no logical reason why our only two "legitimate" choices should be Republican or Democrat.
Very true. In most other countries, both the Republicans and Democrats would each be 3 or 4 different parties. I'd like to see that, but do you see an end to this system in the near future? Or even the future period?

Not unless some additonal parties get some decent funding.

I know. I just liked the picture. It's good to see a grassroots campaign start to take off. :)
