Ok, after years of wearing glasses and many failed attempts at fitting contacts (I have an astigmatism, so the contacts never seem to fit my eye right) I got contacts that fit properly today.
Ever since I put them on though, I feel dizzy and wierd when I walk, kind of like my sense of balance is off. Is this because I have a full range of vision now? When I wear glasses I can't see clearly at all angles. Has this happened to anyone else when they first wore contacts?

Yes it happened to me. It is a very weird feeling. It will go away in a day or so. Then when you put on glasses you will get the feeling. you are going to love having them. you can see so much clearer and they are so much easier to maintain.

I got contacts for the first time over a year (http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/viewmessages.cfm/Forum/69/Topic/25489/page/Contact_Lenses.htm) ago. I haven't regretted doing it either. I also have an astigmatism, and it did take a day or so to adjust, but I love having contacts.

I can't wear contacts because when I did, I constantly got pink eye. I have super sensitive eyes that are prone to allergies, pink eyes, and sties (sp?). I do know that dizzy feeling though... When I put on certain types of sunglasses, it feels like I am seeing things very differently, and I become off balance for the first few minutes of wearing them.

I have always wanted to try contacts, but I have this "thing" about putting glass in my eyes. My friends with contacts swear by them, but I am a chicken.

I wear gas-permeable contacts, really severe astigmatism, I couldn't get contacts for the longest time. If I keep them in too long my eyes get extremely tried & heavy, but vision is much better.

I think your eyes are adjusting to seeing things in different places. Im assuming you're Myopic, so those lenses in your glasses cause curvature distortions, most significantly at the edges of the glasses. Because of this when you see or reach for something, its actually in a slightly different place, meaning the exact 'aiming' of the eye is now different in some situations. This will cause strain in the muscles that surround the eye and gimbal it. And contacts, just putting them in sometimes, will give ya a nice headache, sometimes for a while.
That first really bad eyelash in the lens? I thought 'OK, this is what Torture is like'
Hows that for a total guess? Beats me.

missy, if you can afford it, you should look into laser eye surgery. my sister had it about a year ago, and it's amazing. she had really bad vision and severe astigmatism, and she's now seeing perfectly. it's really unbelievable what they can do...

I just got my contacts today and i put them in about an hour ago, it feels really weird and kinda not comfortable. Like there's something else in my eyes other than the lenses themselves
Urgh.

Good luck with them. They take a little getting used to a first, but within a few days they'll get to be more comfortable. It just takes time for your eyes to adjust to it.

I tried contacts about ten years...I went to an Opthomologist and he measured everything...the day I picked them up ...he placed them for me...I was in excruciating pain for about 12 hours ..then I took them out...never wore them again!!!!

I still don't wear them every day. Usually only when I go out, then the drinking makes me forget they are in.
Oh and then I inevitably rub my eyes and they either pop out or fold in half inside my eye and i have to poke around inside my eyelid to look for it.
Fun times.

Yeah, I had contacts for a while and got sick of them.
I wish I could afford laser surgery.

I wear contacts daily. I can see so much better with them than glasses. I'll only wear glasses if I'm hanigng locally or not leaving the house.
And I have the night and day lenses, so occassionally if I go out and don't sleep home, I can just leave them in overnight.
