I guy I use to work with is getting married next week, and Im invited. His brother called me a few months ago to invite me to the bachelor party, and its this Saturday. The plan is to meet up at his house (the guy getting married) and they will have a barbecue and some beers and then a bus that they are renting will pick us up and bring us out to a Ducks game, and after the game go out to a bar and do some drinking and midget tossing (I have no idea why, and think its degrading for them, but thats another matter). The thing is, I dont really like drinking, and I dont really want to stay out too late. They want us all to give $150 to cover everything. I wish i didnt agree to go, especially with the bus thing. I spoke with his brother today to tell him that I have a graduation the next day (bullshit) and that I need to be home around midnight. He said he will have the bus drop me off and the guy really wants me to go and all that. I really only want to bale because Im not really into drinking and hanging around a bunch of rowdy drunk guys and would rather it be over as soon as possible. I realise I might sound like a wuss for saying it like this, and I do wish the guy all my best and all. Im just hoping that they arent lying to me that the bus will bring me back, but I guess I could get a cab if it came down to it.

A) They are lying, the bus isn't making a special trip home for you.
B) You aren't a wuss for not wanting to be around the drinking guys, yadda yadda, you are a wuss for almost whining about it.
C) $150 just for a bus out to the ducks game? I'm going to a bachelor party in AC, staying at the Borgata in a suite, have 3 lovely "hired help" that we've used before for other parties, who enjoy extras for not too much extra... Without the gambling, I MIGHT spend $150 on it all. Hopefully, it'll pay for itself at the tables.
The moral of the story, its a rip, tell BillyBob you ain't coming.

Holy shit, I actually agree with tool!!
I've been in both of your situations.
Blackbird should cost $50 to $75.
Tool seems about $25 to $50 cheap, but in the ballpark.
If you are not getting hammered and lap-danced, for that price, you are getting ripped off.
Go to the barbeque, have a burger and a couple of brews, talk some shit with guys and see if you are comfortable with commiting the entire night. If so, go for it. If not punk out, Dude!
Unless you are talking about real close friends, I personally would bail and hang at the Riviera for an hour or two, spank it, and then go to sleep.

At 4AM the riviera fills up with low class whores. At least that is what sources tell me.

I should add, a friend is splitting the large cost of the suite.

The more I thought about the Blackbird the more I agree with Tool. Don't do it.
My initial reaction was to say don't go. Though I decided to give it some more thought. I know this person is somewhat a close friend, but for $150+ it's really not worth it.

We just had a bachelorette party for my sister. We all went out to dinner, took a nice limo into the city, and had VIP passes to a really cool club. It was pretty pricy, but with the amount of girls we had, it shouldn't have been too bad. Well, sure enough, when it came down to pay our tab, we were several hundred dollars short. We later found out that one of the girls, who was also a bridesmaid, only put like $60 in. Yeah, she didn't drink much, because she gets allergic reactions to booze, and I think we all wouldve been ok with it if she had said something up front and not leave us scrambling at the last second looking for cash.

It is a guy you use to work with. Is he your buddy? Your pal? Do you hang out alot? Do you call him up and say "Let's go boozing!" No? Then forget it. They need you for the $$.

I did end up going and shelling out the $. It was pretty descent. There was no "barbeque" as I was expecting, but they did have a 10 foot hero and 8 coolers full of different kinds of beer. The bus came and it was a decked out bus with a bathroom and long couches and a system in it with video and disco lights and neon and shit. We went to the game and the brother had this area reserved onlong the left field line, seperated from the stands with picnic tables and umbrellas and a hostess that served hot dogs and hamburgers and all you could drink beers. There was a point that the groom went down on the field and was on the big screen and they announced he was getting married next week and stuff. The first hit of the game was a home run and the ball went over the left field wall near the foul line and the guys behind the wall tossed the ball to the groom. The other guys polished off 6 cases of beer during the game and got really messed up. We then went to a strip club but only a few guys went in. They were really hammerd at that point. I only had a few beers all night, I dont like drinking. We kind of partied on the bus and then went to the bar where the midget toss was going to take place. I saw the midgets in their car waiting out front and they got their gear and went into the basement of the bar where they set up for their toss. One of the midgets fell ont of the car when he was getting out and looked like he got hurt, but he still got dressed up. I didnt stay for the toss, and the bus did take me back to get my car. During the bus ride they were blasting music and screaming at girls on the road and at the game trying to get them to come into bus and stuff. It was pretty fun, but expensive. I probably wont give as extravagant a gift at the wedding now because my funds are low. The guy is a friend, and while we dont hang out like we did when we worked together, he was happy to see me again.

I would've paid the money just to watch the midget fall out of the car.
