RonFez.Net Softball 2004 Season

Ok folks, you knew it was coming... Softball, beer, bbq, and fun. We are planning two dates this year, one in June, one in August.

The June game is Sunday, June 27 at 11am in Haverstraw, NY. The letter is in the mail, but barring unforseen circumstances, there shouldn't be any problems. There will be a picnic area and field this time. Special thanks to the "Anonymous Donor" for getting us the field. It's much appreciated. Directions will be posted closer to game day.

August date is August 28, location is Rahway, NJ. We play at noon.

u can take the train from penn station... take the north east corridor train.. it drops u off right at the rahway train station about 2-3 miles from the field.. i live about 10 min from the station if u need someone to pick u up

P.S. - This is a New York-originated board (granted it now belongs to DC listeners as much as it does former NY listeners)... What's with these games always ending up in some obscure town in New Jersey or Long Island?

Can't we get a permit for Central Park? That could be expensive, I don't know how that stuff works, but at least something in the 5 boroughs?

mm a sunday huh?

i know i didnt get a field or even make an attempt to but i have a lil concern about this whole sunday thing...knowing the amount of alcohol consumed and the amount of sun obsorbed and the sheer tiredness and soreness of it all, having it the day before we all go back to work might not be the best thing. its probably too late to change but this is how i feel about it especially if some people will be traveling a few hours just to get there. i am pretty sure i am not the only one who has this concern.

im just saying how i feel. i love these games but a saturday would have been better.

I know this is probably too late but I wish the game would be on a Saturday instead. I know that people have worked to arrange everything and I'm not taking anything away from that, but Sunday is a little impractical. I would think that people who will be playing will likely be hurting on Monday without having a day of rest after the game. But I'll likely be spectating so that part doesn't bother me.

I signed the papers today for the 26th, I just need for them to confirm that the field is available because some season should be finished.

I should have total confirmation tomorrow, but the details as of now...

Michele and I had a great time and you would be hard-pressed to find a nicer bunch of people. The weather was great, the games were great, the food and drink were great, the cake was awesome, but the people are what make it worth while!

Proof that some people played softaball, and others just played the softball-bat challenge. (JUST kidding G!!!!)

Ok, What I learned from the softball game.
1) That Snoogans is as competitive as Earl Weaver.
2) Bobby P. is an ass-grabber (and a DAMN good one)
3) My girlfriend should NEVER play any form of organized sports. (I love you Rosanna but...eeeeesh)
4) Funkman and his daughter Funky Brewster (sorry inside joke) definately are good family and he is a GREAT cook!
5) SPOON can play! Figm3nt however...ummm...he gave effort (still throws like a girl though)
6)Monster 1 is a TALL fella...and his woman was nice too!
7) Duke is a kewl kid! His mom is awsome and his buddy can play ball. That kid made some great catches out there in the field (he just needs to smile more)
8) Green Lantern need to be a Designated runner....three strides with those legs of his and he is on 1st base in no time!
9)The Keilbasa KICKED ASS! (Thanks Funk!)
10) WAYYY too many people had to go home early...
11) That sun was brutal...as proof today that my legs are hurting like hell.
12)MH is just as competivite as Snoogans, just we are afraid to say it because he looks too much like the unibomber (Just kidding MH....please do not blow me up! ;) )
13) This field was not that bad to get to...we just needed to use the other field.
14) The urge to golf was VERY stong yesterday
15) Next time I am bringing a table and a BBQ, we had plenty of supplies and not that much on food.
16) This board has some cute ass dogs as pets!
17)Sunblock is in order for the next game...oh yes!!!!

What a great day. The turnout was not huge in numbers, but it was off the charts in terms of quality human beings. The first appearance at a board function of the Toolman was enough to make my day; but then he went & topped it by taking Funkman deep, breaking into a nice home run trot, and making it back to the plate in time to pick up & finish his cigarette. Never again will I doubt your athletic prowess.

Thanks again to Jon for pulling together another excellent function, and for being the pivotman on the day's only around-the-horn double play.

It was nice to get to see familiar faces: F1gm3nt, CyberSoldier (who was nice enough to bust my balls every plate appearance for my lack of coordination getting out of the batters box), Nogz, Tazz, Blakjeezis (whom I have accepted as my Lord & savior), DreamWeaver, Sexy Bastard, Funkman & Mini-Funk :) , Green Lantern, Pantera, & Snoogans.

And to meet some others for the first time: DynamiteK, Duke & his boy Rob (our defensive MVP), Monster1, Spoon (our post-pubescent MVP), etc.

And Emma & the original Duke04 are two of the cutest pups I've ever met.although Duke could stand to be a little quicker in dodging softballs, but there's plenty of time to work on that before the August games.

Crips, your credit card vertical was a sight to behold. Anyone coming into 3rd was faced with a large dilemna, turn around and go back, or deal w/ the Crip! Crips, believe me, I have no athletic prowress, Funk threw a fatty and the wind did the rest. As for my home run trot, I was running full speed!! :(

I must say, some people looked as I expected, some, absolutely different.


Duke, I wasn't expecting to see a kid at the field for some reason, not quite sure why. I guess I always thought your posts were really alkey in disguise, that filthy kid toucher. Anyway, it was good to see you and your buddy, easily the stars of the game.

However, due to the kiddies presence, I had to keep my illigal activities in the car, and stop off between innings. However, my coffee made it through the entire debacle...

to be honest I have no idea what blue laws mean 'at this time'... remember i had 8 yeungling and 1 bass and on top of that "i'm old" but i'm off from work til Saturday...

After 12 you can buy anything you want. There are several liquor stores in the immediate area of the park so getting booze will NOT be a problem.
I will check to see if any will be opening earlier.
And remember, this game is on a saturday and blue laws mostly apply to sunday games. So the chance for us to get booze at like 10 or 11 am is greater then on a sunday.
