So I went this year. First time sine '00.
Good stuff. I'm more of a second stage kind of guy (where you can see the people who will be on the main stage in 1 - 3 years), so I caught The Living End (my favorite band--from Down Under and they just rock out without fail), Lit (Kinda surprised they were on the second stage), and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs (Karen O has some stage presence, I tell you what).
Then we heading inside and caught the Violent Femmes on the main stage (making up for the festival back in '94 or '95 that we missed because it sold out too quickly) and turned around an immediately went back outside to the local stage to catch local legends Jimmi's Chicken Shack (who played longer than they were supposed to, and asked if anyone had thought they had broken up--I thought they had broken up).
Back inside for the rest of the show which was pretty good, saw most of Jay-Z, The Offspring played all the hits, and the Cure closed it out with a set that was about an hour long. They didn't play either of my favorites Lovecats and 10:15 Saturday Night, but it was still I good show.
I never realized there was so many people in this world with bad tattoos. I mean really bad tattoos.

The second stage--probably when the horrid emo band before the Living End was playing.

Would ya look at the size of that kid's head! It's the size of a planetoid and it has it's own weather system! Looks like an orange on a toothpick! I'm not kidding, that boy's head is like Sputnik; spherical but quite pointy at parts! Aye, now that was offsides, now wasn't it? He'll be crying himself to sleep tonight, on his huge pillow.

It's funny how nobody at that station can seem to make the connection that the HFStivals stopped selling out (Hell, they used to have the things for two days some years) when they started loading up on "hit of the moment" fake-"alternative" bands with only a few decent acts sprinkled in.
The last one I went to was the last one that sold out, the year when STP and RATM closed the show...was that '00?

Yeah, Mojo '00 was STP and RATM.
That was really the last one worth going to.
It was after that year that it went to 2 days.
Plus ther price has gone up--I remember the first one at RFK might have been $12.
Then for the next couple of years it was 20 bands, 20 bucks.
Saturday was $45.

And even that year, I'd say there were more awful bands than truly good ones.
Outside of Rage, STP and the Deftones tearing things up, the rest were bands like Filter, Third Eye Blind, Godsmack and The Bloodhound Gang...weak.
But MAN, that used to be a great festival in the 90's. It was like our own personal Lollapalooza each year.

God, I don't even remember the Bloodhound Gang being there. I think I was out in the parking lot watching Gepetto or something. That year both SR71 and Good Charlotte playing the 'local' stage months before they both got big. (I didn't go out to watch either of them)
Like I said I'm a second stage kind of guy, so I saw third eye blind on the second stage 3 or so years before (almost completely by accident--I got stuck in the middle of the crow and didn't feel like fighting my way out). While they were playing in '00, my dad and I had club seats, since the show was at FedEx instead of RFK, so we hung out in the humidor and smoked cigars instead of watching them. Ok, that's not completely true. But we could have.
I have many more stories like that.

Yeah, the second stage is now the only real place to catch decent bands...which is sad, since in the festival's glory days, you'd go nuts trying to figure out which stage to check out since they had SO many good bands playing.

I'm pretty sure that the first HFStival I went to (Lake Fairfax, it was either the 2nd or 3rd one overall), only cost $5.

What?
You mean they aren't breaking the bank by booking acts like Good Charlotte and New Found Glory?
Of this year's lineup, I'd probably have only been excited to see The Cure.

Too fucking funny...
I just went to a website with pictures from some fan boy's website on the WHFStival, when I find pictures of American's cutest couple...

(Sorry...they won't let me hard link to it)
Yup! Harry Elvis (standing) and Wonderboy (sitting, facing away) are taking in some of the behind the scenes stuff from last week's show.
Kind of a jolt!
Not sure if they are in any other pics - you can check them out here. (http://www.hfstival.com) Maybe you can find Jefe and Dubs.

hey! there's me!. All right, so I don't quite see myself, but I was probably one of the ones with the fist in the air. I had to suffer with the plebes in the crowd, unlike those reclining comfortably in the other pictures.

Normally I wouldn't bump a thread like this, but I just wanted to point out the 'horrid emo band' I mentioned in my first post was Fall Out Boy...
