Sunday had me in north NJ, and returning southbound on the Garden State Parkway, approaching the Driscoll Bridge that goes over the Raritan, and Northbound is essentially a parking lot, and its not even June. DigiCam was in car, so I took these of that Lovely area of Tolls right at the bridge. I'd estimate it was five miles of standstill approaching the bridge tolls northbound, its tough to see on the pics but some are those lines stretch a loooong way.
What a nightmare this is gonna be.
Where the spots around you if any that just go batshit on weekends, on Sunday evenings as everyone who went everywhere goes back home?

When I was living in Brooklyn, I used to drive the Belt Parkway to my folks on Long Island. The worst summer traffic spot on the belt had to be that stretch between the Marine Park Bridge and Sheepshead Bay - an area I called "Rubberneck Beach". It was a beach area that everyone felt they have to slow down to 30 in order see the fat people in bathing suits.

I drive that road about 750,000 times a week, being that I drive all over for work, and my chick lives down the shore and I live up north. Whoever planned the whole Driscoll bridge / Raritan toll plaza area on each side, needs to be shot in the head. There have been times when I've seen the northbound side backed up almost to the Arts Center. And forget about southbound, with the feeds coming from the Turnpike and 1&9 right there, during rush hour I suggest you bring some knitting or a coloring project, or perhaps you could pen your memoirs.

you nailed it blakjeezis; look at the southbound lanes; empty. and yer right about all those feeds:
OK, lets have Rts. 1, 9, the GSP, and the NJT all meet up right here, at a bridge, and lets plop a big toll plaza on the other side. And yep, back to the Arts Center is not uncommon.
McGreevey's approval rating would skyrocket if he bulldozed those fuckers. I dont get it; I hear something like 60-70% of the money collected goes to the cost of the toll collection. Plus i think the tolls original purpose was to pay for its construction, and then bulldoze em.
Pfffftttt...
Youd think, at LEAST, they say, OK, if it gets that bad, fuck the tols and let everyone through, just for a bit? ok?

The TZ bridge was a nightmare last year, especially with all the construction going on past the tolls. When I used to go out to dinner with Jon's family, it would take me about 2 hours to get home (which was normally a 25 minute ride) from Rockland.

Stop it with your Tappan-Zee complaining. If you live in NY, that's what you get. Those of us living in the pastoral environs of Jersey expect nothing but calm, easy driving all the way, that's why we choose to live here.

When I lived in Bangkok, my school was about 20 miles from my apartment.
It took just about an hour to get there in the morning by bus, and over an hour-and-a-half to four hours (Or more) to get home at night depending on the traffic...EVERY DAY.
Since moving back, I have never once been even annoyed by American traffic. GOD BLESS THIS COUNTRY!

Indeed.
And it took TWO nights to make this strong man crumble.

Yes but did you live in: New York, London, Paris, Munich?
And did everybody talk about pop music?
Talk about.

Would ya look at the size of that kid's head! It's the size of a planetoid and it has it's own weather system! Looks like an orange on a toothpick! I'm not kidding, that boy's head is like Sputnik; spherical but quite pointy at parts! Aye, now that was offsides, now wasn't it? I would love to derail this thread even further by quoting from an obscure Swing Out Sister or Lisa Stansfield song but out of deference to Mike I won't.
Instead I will just post this picture of Rick Astley.

Sorry, but there is NOTHING that beats traffic going to/leaving the Hamptons any weekend starting with Memorial day in the summer.

Substitute "Cape Cod" for "Hamptons" and then I'll agree.

All of my favorite spots are totally Fucked-Up to get to...
The Hamptons, forget about it. we used to leave at 3pm on Friday, Between Rt 4, the GWB, the Cross-Bronx, the Whitestone, the BQE, the LIE, and the only fucking way to get into the Hamptons... 50 miles, 3 hours.
My personal favorite, Seaside Heights... If you leave at the right time, you are smooth sailing until the dreaded "Toms River Toll" after you approach that, expect a half hour minimum.
Even that septic tank I like to call Orchard Beach, Again, Rt 4, GWB, Cross-Bronx. (although this one is worth it to go to City Island for Fish& Chips!)
