View Full Version : Great Names of Pubs or Restaurants
There is an old diner near Darien, CT..
( I think it's closed down- I'm not sure ),
but it's called,
"Swanky Franks".
The sign is still there, with a letter missing..Classic.
I was thinking how "The Wicked Monk" would go over in the Boston area...Tall J, comment?

I worked in Darien and ate at Swanky Frank's all the time. Good hotdogs.

There was also a Chinese Restaurant in Hewlett (Long Island) called Fu's Rush Inn. It always made me chuckle.

I believe there used to be a restaurant in DC called Taiwan On, or some variation on that. I can't seem to find it on the internet so it may not exist anymore.

Would ya look at the size of that kid's head! It's the size of a planetoid and it has it's own weather system! Looks like an orange on a toothpick! I'm not kidding, that boy's head is like Sputnik; spherical but quite pointy at parts! Aye, now that was offsides, now wasn't it? He'll be crying himself to sleep tonight, on his huge pillow.

Well, I was going to mention "Tequila Mockingbird," or the old biker bar in DC that closed a few years ago called "The Crow Bar," but since everyone is going with an Asian flavor, the Chinese restaurant near my apartment, on Columbia Pike, is called simply "Oriental Restaurant."

I still maintain the greatest estalishment name ever :"Bill's Air Condtioned Tavern".
Main St., Butler, NJ. Walk past on a summer evening and hear the locals rocking out to the strains of Lynyrd Skynyrd and .38 Special. It sounds like a movie, I know, but it's as real as it gets.

It's actually in Norwalk, directly across the street from I-95 exit 14 (Southbound). I assure you, it's still open and packed everytime I drive by.

There is a place in New Rochelle that everyone calls Greasy Nick's. The real name of the place is Leno's Clam Bar. It's related to Jay Leno somehow. Great steamers and awesome burgers.

A sushi place just opened in my neighborhood called "Ichi-ro". Honoring the ballplayer perhaps?
I always like pubby type names, too, like "The Pig & Whistle", "The Cask & Flagon", or "The Bull & Bear."

There used to be a restaurant in New York City in midtown Manhattan called "Everybody Loves Pancakes". Not sure if it's still there or not. I drove past there about 5 years ago and the name of the place always stuck in my mind. Now I'm hungry...

There's a pub just south of Portland called "Wanker's Corner." If you're thirsty, they'd be more than happy to whip up a batch...of their delicious microbrew!
