I just read this on DCRTV, lets hope this is true and the boys will stay in DC and be heard in Baltimore. I have been talking about this for fucking years it is about time Infinity wises up and realizes the talent of our buddies.

R&F To 105.7 Too - 5/26 - DCRTV's sources are telling us that WJFK-FM evening duo Ron and Fez will soon also be heard on Baltimore's Live 105.7, WXYV. Both stations are owned by Infinity. Late last year, DCRTV reported rumblings that R&F might be heard in Charm City. WXYV currently airs the nationally syndicated Tom Leykis show in the 7 PM slot. Still no official announcement about the change...

I don't know, Jafter, have you read this thread? But I want to know what people really think about (c)harm city.

Anyway, that sounds like great news for the guys. I think it's a great move and will only make the show better. Those Bal'mer callers...

Jafter, bro, you beat me to it! HA!

"Live 105" is actually a perfect fit for them; station has Stern and Don and Mike, does well with both, and has a coverage that fills in some gaps 106.7 in DC has. You and I have been flogging this pretty hard for the last year or so; great to see some new grumblings regarding it.

(Makes you wonder where those grumbling originate from?! Hmmmmm...maybe a spot check at WJFK for all computers with DCRTV as a home page setting!)

((heh-heh))

The area is also diverse, and fun - combined DC and "Balmer" is like the 3rd or 4th largest demographic in the country. I love Baltimore, and would consider moving there now that I can hear my buddies!

Sure, it has it's rough around the edges sections, but it is so much more livable ($$ wise) than the DC area.

One GREAT things about that station in Baltimore, is that it has a monsterous reach. I can pick it up in Arlington, without too much trouble. On the Maryland side of the DC beltway, where JFK often drops out, 105.7 comes in clear as a bell.

AND...for our buddies in Pennsylvania, I may be wrong, but they might be able to pick it up from up there as well!

I would be really happy if WJFK imports the locals "Out To Lunch" from Baltimore and get rid of O'Whiney, and give R&F a break.

THIS is called synergy baby!

They were going to listen to tapes that djs sent in to the station (a running gag on the show?), but these were tapes that were sent in to an add that specifically said 'JFK looking for a replacement for Ron and Fez who going to W??? in Tampa.' So there was a big dispute whether Cameron placed the add, then said it was mistake, then denied placing the add altoghether. blah, blah, blah...

Bottom line is Don and Mike said they like Ron and Fez and wanted them to stay.

That would be great! I live in Baltimore and love Baltimore. RnF on 105.7 would be the icing on the cake, crabcake, that is! I bought 4 shortwave radios and placed them around my house to pick up the show from DC. If this dream comes true, look for some shortave radio bargains on eBay.

Freakshow - I didin't hear D&M; interesting. Not surprised that they were chomping at the bit to out this whole thing, now that it is pretty obvious Ron and Fez are staying put.

Tonight R&F made fun of the whole Florida rumors again tonight, with Iris calling in and mentioning that it looked like they might be going back to "Temple."

If this is true (which it's too early to really say) I am happy for Ron & Fez, but still more baffled at Infinity's decision making. All I'm gonna say is, Baltimore did not BEG on its hands and knees for Ron & Fez. New York did.

Yeah, but Infinity now has a station in Baltimore that fits the format, and NY doesn't right now.

I actually wasn't trying to make it a NY thing -- just bad days in Baltimore that having R&F might make up for. What's sad is that so many of Baltimore's darkest sports days have come at the hands of NY.

Sad...or evil? (haha)

There are many that blame that Jeff Maier brat for the direction the O's took; it really was a moment where all life got sucked out of the Orioles, and they never really recovered, while that also signaled the beginning of the Yanks return to dominance.

Of couse...it might have something to do with the Orioles wasting $80 million on Albert "The Big Suck" Belle, a player the Yanks passed on.

Naturally, though, I choose to blame that kid.

I see your point, but I disagree. The Orioles were at their peak the following year. In 1997, they were wire-to-wire AL East Champions. Then what should have been a third strike to end an inning by Jim Thome in the ALCS was missed by the ump because he thought Thome checked his swing, which lead to another batter (i'm drawing a blank on who) and a home run, blown lead and loss. After that, the team (other than Mussina) folded up. After that, Davey Johnson got fired for designating player fines to his wife's charity, Peter Angelos (satan) changed direction on the team on a whim (rebuilding? win now?). It's been mostly downhill from there. I counter that since the bad call on Thome's strikeout, the team hasn't been the same.

Sorry, that's pretty far off topic.

This will be fantastic for the boys if middays come true. Let's keep our fingers crossed. To our friends up north the show is heading in the right direction, Baltimore, Philly, and back home to NYC. I have been preaching this for years and Baltimore is a perfect starting point for the syndication.

Now everyone in the VA/DC/MD area will be able to hear the boys clearly. Keep the faith and the boys will be back on in NYC.

I believe Annapolis should not have a problem picking up the station. I can pick it up around the Wilson Bridge, although it's fuzzy. I switch over just north of the DC beltway if i'm listening to Don and Mike, and it's quite clear.

I noticed also on the DCRTV list that Tony Kornheiser is looking to go to XM. I wonder if that means his departure from ESPN was not his choice? Either that or he is not enjoying not being on the radio anymore. I'm inclined to believe the second one since he does a live call in on the Sports Reporters on WTEM at 5:30 and winds up talking into their 'sportscenter' update at 5:40.

Update on DCRTV:

R&F To Middays? M&T To DC? - 5/27 - Yesterday, DCRTV reported that WJFK-FM 106.7 evening duo Ron and Fez will soon also be heard on Infinity's co-owned Live 105.7 in Baltimore. Since posting that, we've been getting a lot of other R&F rumblings. Including the interesting possibility that Infinity may move R&F to the 11 AM to 3 PM slot on both stations (R&F currently do the 11 AM hour on JFK, before Bill O'Reilly at noon) and transplant Miles and Thrill from 105.7's midday "Out To Lunch" show to evenings on both stations. Stay tooned.....

I fail to see how the R&F Show wouldn't fit in any Modern or Classic Rock format station. Does a station really need to be 100% talk for them to get over? When O&A broke into NYC they were the only talk on 102.7. What makes you think Our Buddies can't pull off the same thing. Plus R&F already have a major following here, it would take them notime to make a killing no matter what they were sandwiched between.

I got a letter from the army so I think that I'll enlist. I'm not brave or proud of nothing I just want to kill something.

TheMojoPin

Well, BrownTown, what you say makes sense...which is why you don't work for Infinity. It seems Infinity is afraid to really push radio talk shows that aren't Howard on non-talk format stations. In short...they're pussies.

What makes you think Our Buddies can't pull off the same thing.

What makes you think that what they are doing is what I personally think? I was simply answering a question why Infinity did what they did.

It makes sense for them to do baby steps - to begin R&F Syndication into a safe (inner) harbor like Live 105, which is really WJFK's sister station.

Plus R&F already have a major following here, it would take them notime to make a killing no matter what they were sandwiched between.

The sad truth about New York, when they are finally back there, is that they will more than likely have no time to build an audience, so this will need to be true. Being the biggest market, they (the brass) don't have the luxery to wait more than a couple of books for success. In Baltimore, on that station, they will be there pretty much as long as they wish to be there as they build up their listeners - which is the benefit they have in Washington too.

And while Infinity has done some really crummy, shitty things over the years, they at least had a fall back scenerio in place for R&F, and saw the potential in keeping them.

hey, I didn't think about it until just now, but what would happen from 7-8pm on mondays while DC airs "Redskins Radio"?

It'd be smart to get rid of it, but I think it's a contractual thing. At least it was, and the only reason it stuck around was because they had signed it thinking the Sports Junkies would easily fit that into the first hour of the show. Then the Junkies jumped ship, and WJFK was stuck with an hour long infomercial for a football team. I don't know if that's still the case though.

Hello.

This Omar Peter, a long time RonFez.net lurker and a listener via SU since the WNEW days before things got ugly.

Just wanted to let y'all know that I e-mailed the producer of the Out To Lunch show at Live 105.7 today (6/1) and he replied that Uncle Ronnie and Aunt Fez are to on Live 105.7 on Wednesday (6/2).

I have been recording the OTL show and posting it on the newsgroups, and I am planning to record and post the show from Live 105.7 to help out HPJunky and Mike. I get a very clear signal here with very little interuption from the station itself. Although I'm sorry that I can not provide any feeds because legal considerations and the poliicies of my employers.

If Ron & Fez are indeed on wednesday I'll post my mp3's as a suppliment to one being posted from WJFK. One difference is that I do not post best of shows.

I can wait to actually hear R&F in real time and maybe even get a call in to welcome them to Baltimore!! :)

Thank you Mike! This is like being called up to the majors here. I got to "talk" fluffernutter on the Out To Lunch board awhile back and now I get a welcome from another big hitter! :)

I have been cutting my teeth on recording Don & Mike (who are dead to me now) and Out To Lunch, which is the local 11 - 3 show on Live105.7. I have it pretty much have it down to a science now but can always use suggestions! I appreciate the offer! :8|:

Well, O&A DID promise that radio was going to get really interesting, and here we have Ron and Fez moving the Fastest Hour up to 7pm AND they are live in Baltimore!

That's pretty interesting to me!

:)

Surprise, surprise!
R&F now have a page on the Live 105 wesite!
Billy Staples sounds as though he's preparing to staple himself to the cross.
Mizzle the Tizzle can hammer the staples in with his stiffy. If only DaVinci were here to commit this tableau to canvas!

From the 105.7 website:

Ron and Fez were moved to several shifts and the rest of the stations schedule was filled with short-lived shows such as The Radio Chick and The Sports Guys. Just as things looked best for R & F, with syndication talk, fate dealt R & F, and the entire talk format of the New York station a fatal blow in August 2002.

Ron and Fez had lost a show on a top FM station in the number 1 radio market in the USA. Speculation as to what would become of the R & F show were answered, when Ron and Fez were transferred to sister station, WJFK-FM in Washington D.C. and now they're on Baltimore's Live 105.7 from 7pm - 11pm!

Wow. A web site for an Infinity station almost makes reference to O&A.

Yeah, pretty wild - I think most of the verbage is pretty close to what's on WJFK's site, until you get to the bottom of the page. I wouldn't be surprised if WB had his hand in writing it.

I wonder how long before it's removed!

DCRTV announced that Opie would be on Imus yesterday, and it didn't happen. (unsurprisingly)

So, while I wish R&F the best, it wouldn't surprise me if DCRTV were just screwing with us all....

Well, some of us. ;-)

Does everybody remember how annoying it was that for about six months after they were on in DC live, the callers were constantly starting their calls with "Welcome to DC"? Get ready for lots of "Welcome to Baltimore."

Hell, MB, I'm prepared for the chorus of "Baltimore Callers SUCK" posts on here.

Hey, they got their information from the O&A websites that were all a-buzz about some big announcement.

I agree that they should dump O'Reilly, but that's just not going to happen - he actually does well in the ratings, so they aren't going to monkey around with that - at least not now (one more year on his contract, I believe).

In any event, today's 11am fastest hour was a replay of last night's 7pm fastest hour - so it appears that, for the most part (if this all stays true) the daytime fastest hour, Tuesday - Friday, will be a replay from the night before at 7pm.

Which then also means, the ONLY day they will actually have to work a split shift is Mondays, since they will not want to run a fastest hour replay Monday at 11am from FRIDAY night's show.

And all of that IS an improvement over the current previous situation.

All makes sense now.

I LOVED hearing the show live all the way to 11pm! I especially enjoyed hearing the music at the end of the show, just like the good old days!

Ron: Alright here is Pete. Pete you're on Ron and Fez.
Fez: Hey, Pete!
Pete: Am I on the air?
Ron: Yes you are. Go ahead sir.
Pete: Oh.....(beat) Hey Ron and Fez. Welcome to Baltimore. I've been listening to you guys for awhile. I used to listen while you were in Florida and then I moved to NYC because of work and I found you there and I've been listening since you guys came to D.C. but this is the first time I've called in.
Ron: Yes, what can we do for you Pete.

Ron: Are they lifeguards or lifepussies?!?!

Oh no! Live 105.7 in Baltimore is running a Fox sports show instead of that R&F best of hour I cherished by comparison to WJFK's pitiful and unnecessary Redskins show. This horrible show is like a morning zoo at night ( a mourning zoo?), replete with sound effects, Homer Simpson and Austin Powers samples!

According to a thread that Jafter just posted, Redskins radio is moving to 11AM on Mondays. Hopefully that will mean the end of the sports show on Live 105.7 next week. Here's Jafter's thread (http://www.ronfez.net/messageboard/viewmessages.cfm/TOPIC/39468/FORUM/46/page/Redskin_Radio_to_move_to_Monday_11am_slot.htm)
