Once in awhile, you may hear a voice sounding somewhat familiar, be it from Florida, NY, DC or elsewhere and you can't help but wonder....what if.

The voices, the voices will always be in your head
and low and behold the future guarantees new voices to haunt an vex you inthe future....I hear one calling now...it seems to be saying, I'm not sure, but sound like...Broadcasting Live from ...the rest is garbled, or hold on, theres another, lemmetelyasumpin I believe I heard and wait last one, from the earth to the ground and something around in a weird southern twang, almost retarded sounding.

Is this for real??

Yup. WB was offered a job as Assistant PD and on air talent for a "Classic Rock" station in Nags Head, NC. It sounds like a good opportunity for him, although the adjustment will have to be very, very weird.

First, moving and working someplace really new will be tought, although he came to DC knowing only R&F, so he's been through it. Even so, the pace is VERY different down there than up in DC, or especially NY. He might learn to really like it, or it may drive him completely nuts.

Nags Head is really nice in the summer, but despite what Ron said last night, the winters are pretty nice too. No tourists, and the weather never gets really cold.

Anyway, his last day is a week from Friday, although that day (and all next week) they are running Best of, so I'm guessing the last day on the air with R&F will be Friday night, unless he can break through and show up on The Hideout, or slip in a "Good bye" in the middle of Best O on 7/2.

Say what you will about WB, but he really was devoted to Ron and Fez, he contributed a lot to the show (sometimes in spite of himself!), he did step up to Mikey D when challenged and held his own and he served as a connection to their world in New York. I'm sure they will miss him and wish him nothing but the best.

I really can't claim to have any inside information about WB's departure. I've been posting threads about him leaving ever since he came to DC.

Any news on who will produce the show now? On his goodbye show Billy Staples said he'd be around for the boys whenever they called.

curtoid
06-27-2004, 05:10 PM
I think Billy is in CA, so it's doubtful he will be back - they went through it once before with him, before WB, and I think it broke down when talking about money. Like I said earlier, they don't pay shit.

Right now, in house, they have J-Dubs, who could easily step in while they search for someone else. There's also the producer of the Hideout - Tommy Bats (aka Tommy Bateman) - who would be good; would be a lot of fun, I think. I don't know Spoon's status, since they took away the fastest hour at mid-day show (he still runs the board for Stern in the AM, so unless they do a major shuffling, I doubt he's going to go to nights).

I thought about asking while I was down there, but I be honest I don't like to bug them with that kind of shit when I see them; besides it's a lot more fun to speculate!

Man...it was like the ending of DO THE RIGHT THING. For a moment there I half expected to hear a gun shot, and half expected him to reveal that he really wasn't leaving. Didn't see it coming. Guess I should have.

Funny as shit - the only way to leave with any last piece of dignity, especially after the show he had leading up to it, with everyone busting his balls. Leaving the bat behind - perfect.

I feel bad that Dubs has to clean all the glass out, but again - it was a funny segment, and makes me want to listen to The Hideout!

Win! Win!

A couple of additional notes...this was WB's very last show, and for the most part it was nothing but a reminder of the low points since he came onboard since October. A lot of shit from Jen, Dubs, Jefe and even the interns. Wendell clocked in with some good stuff, and Cam daddy had a mixed farewell message. Through it all, Ron and Fez kept trying to turn it positive, but no one seemed to want to go that direction!

At one point Dubs and Jefe gave Wonderboy the bat he used to bust his window out. During the last segment of the show, when they were supposed to be wrapping things up and enjoying cake that Lazlo brought in, WB called from the parking lot, sounding like he was crying and (as Miz said) said finally he would be remembered for something, and then busted out a window in J-Dubs car, and then took off into the night.

The initial shock of it was what was funny.

I guess my thread got locked, so I came here to reaffirm my distaste for Wonderboy. Yeah, for the people who have met him in person, he's a nice guy, blah blah blah. But on the air, he is just the most annoying, psuedo-intellectual bore i've ever heard since Al Dukes- but at least Al Dukes was amusing.

Where's the Wonderboy fan club? I don't think there's anyone who can honestly say that they love the wonderboy whenever he's on air.

Goodbye Wonderboy. You left a great show to go to some stupid place, and that's what you deserve. At least the show has one less person screwing it up and non-producing.

I'm sorry that a lot of people really didn't like him, but some of the blame lies in his personality.

Were there any legal issues with Wonderboy breaking J-Dub's car's window? I know if I did it there would be.

Not that we know of, however late on Friday's edition of "The Hideout" El Jefe hinted that there was some big news that would be coming out this next week on WJFK that seemed to in relation to WB.

Jefe said he was "biting is tongue" when the topic of Wonderboy came up; Dubbs seemed to stop himself from asking if "someone was going to talk" (?! - I think that's what he said); Jefe then promised that there was going to be a number of interesting pieces of news related to WJFK next week - in addition to WB?

We'll find out.

This sort of echos a blurb on DCRTV from last week regarding a big shake up coming to WJFK in the next week.

How will it all piece together???! Who knows.

One thing is for sure - the 8pm R&F on Monday should be excellent, as we find out from them any aftermath of the car window segment; this will also be the official welcome back to Tampa show; and it will be the first show with Tommy Bats stepping in as one of the interum producers.

Scuttle! Scuttle! Scuttle!

Well, so far they have said a few good things about Wonderboy (sarcasticly) but no mention of windows or cops.

Looks like legal action was taken and they can't talk about it. (Not offical, just my take on it so far, but they might be waiting for later in the show to talk about it, only 75 mins into it)

I'm pretty sure it's still against the law to break out someone else's windows, even if someone else pays for the damage. And even if that someone gave them the bat (Signed!)

It's J Dub's window so it's his call.

Yeah, now there's nobody left except for those lousy hacks, Fez & Ron.

Funny, I read my post over and over and I cant seem to find where I have inferred that. In fact, I don't ever remember inferring that. Maybe you can point out where I obviously gave you that impression?

Lighten up. I think what he was pointing out was that while it might be nice to have ties to the NY days, Ron & Fez are by far the most important components of the show.

And if memory serves me, you were with him on that trip. Thats certainly good enough for me!

I dont know why there are so many wonderboy detractors. I have met him and he is definitely a standup guy. His on radio persona was obviously a bit like all his predecessors. You know whoever suceeds him will eventually be trashed as well.

I didn't miss the innuendo.

1) I wasnt 100% positive I remembered correctly that she was there.

2) And while I was pretty sure she was and what she meant, I purposely did not address that.

FUNNY AS SHIT!!!

WB just called, and we just found out on tonight's episode that on the way to North Carolina, after he busted out J-Dubb's car window, Wonderboy's back window got busted out on the highway by a stray rock!

Instant karma is real!

Like a stray rock flys up from behind you and busts your REAR window out? mmm hmmm, i'd rather like to think that alot of spite and hatred went into busting that window out...even if it were a rock full of spite and hatred that jumped off of the side of the road and did it..... or two thugs in NC with nothing better to do........

Seems that Wonderboy was parking in MY parking space at my apartment all last week. So now I don't like him either.
