Lately when I go to a lot of stores I'm noticing more and more that they won't put price tags on items, nor on displays. I even see it in stores that don't have the price scanners in the aisles. That you literally have to walk up to the register with it to get a price check.

I'm beginning to wonder if there's a psychology to this that a certain percentage of the public will some reason feel embarassed to not take the item for the price that they'll just buy it. I don't really get it.

Here's another example. I was in CompUSA yesterday and they had this wireless router on sale for around $49. I decided to compare the prices with the other models in the store. I get to the aisle that the routers are and they have 8 different makers selling variations of the same router. None of which had a price tag or price on the rack. Do they expect me to bring different models to the register, or hunt someone down for the price? Or just grab the one with the price on display (which could be more expensive for all I know) to the register and buy it?

I was in CVS the other day and had a similar experience with many different items not priced. Personally I prefer to know how much things are so I can compare.

neither do I.

Guesses:

-maybe with sales these days the prices change so often its not worth it to price the stuff.

-i agree on the psychology part. i think that perhaps they wish to remove price as a factor in the purchase; which is to me exactly what a credit card allows.

-the security people who have to watch you requested this to make things more amusing.

-obviously theres a reason for this, because a lot of places i see have those price scanners throughout the store where you can scan the damn thing and get the price, so I'm sticking with the price change thing, and im sticking with dog rape.

Reminds me of when you are told the Specials at a restaurant but you never know the prices til you get the check. It seems to be human nature to think something is being hidden at your expense and for the benefit of someone else.

Stores should have a price sign for all items(not necessarily a tag for each one) and restaurants too.

i love the places that have those bar-code scanny machines throughout the store so that you can check the prices yourself. not only is it fun, but it's more accurate than even the price tags when things are put on sale and stuff.

there's not much better than walking up to that scanner thing in bloomingdales with an arm full of shoes. i'm such a girl sometimes.

I agree, though it sucks in the stores that not only don't display price tags but also don't have those scanners. I love the scanners and I can understand the way prices change enough to think that it makes sense to not list the prices on items though they should have a scanner available for you to check as opposed to having to go to the register to find out.
