9/11 panel sees no link between Iraq, al-Qaida (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5223932/)

Oh, wow, this one knocked me right on my ass.

No, wait, it didn't. What's the complete opposite of being knocked on my ass by something? THAT'S what it did.

Bin Laden ceased that support in the early 1990s, opening the way for a meeting between the al-Qaida leader and a senior Iraqi intelligence officer in 1994 in Sudan, the report said. At the meeting, bin Laden is said to have requested space to establish training camps in Iraq as well as Iraqi assistance in procuring weapons, but Iraq apparently never responded, the staff report said.

perhaps Gestalt?

really simplified and probably incorrectly, it's that feeling, sometimes as strong as Deja Vu, but instead it's when you've been working a crossword puzzle or something, a name of someone you have forgotten and has been eating at you, and: BOOM!

It's all fits. Or the memory of the name finally comes back. You look at it and go, 'Of Course! How could it have been Any other way?!'

Sometimes it's not surprise, but almost a let down; since it's, well, Obvious.

Hold your breath, here comes a rant...

How the focus of every man woman and child in this country is not to eradicate this organization from the face of the earth is completely beyond me. THEY INTEND TO KILL EVERY LAST ONE OF US! And the sad part is, after 9/11 we were all gung-ho, ready to take up arms. REMEMBER?!?!? But no. Thanks to a combination of Bi-partisan bullshit in Washington, a complete lack of cohesiveness is figuring out HOW TO STOP THESE MONSTERS from KILLING US (I guess those 2 are one in the same), a Waterhead in office HELLBENT on engaging in war with the WRONG FUCKING ISLAMIC NATION, the ultimate oxymoron MILITARY INTELLIGENCE, and maybe most importantly (cuz if we all gave a shit, they would have to as well) the fact that we all have the collective attention span of a FUCKING GNAT, (fuck man, the average American probably gives more of a shit about Britney's fake titties than saving this once great country), we are officially fucked.

I don't know what its going to take for us to wake up, but we better real soon.

but found "no credible evidence" of a link between Iraq and al-Qaida in attacks against the United States.

Just finishing the headline. Can CNN be any more misleading?

I think we knew all of this already. Bush IS NOT saying that Iraq was involved in the attack on 9/11, just that the two sides had met.

Getting lifted up by your own petard?

From Dictionary.com
Word History: The French used p‚tard, "a loud discharge of intestinal gas," for a kind of infernal engine for blasting through the gates of a city. "To be hoist by one's own petard," a now proverbial phrase apparently originating with Shakespeare's Hamlet (around 1604) not long after the word entered English (around 1598), means "to blow oneself up with one's own bomb, be undone by one's own devices." The French noun pet, "fart," developed regularly from the Latin noun pditum, from the Indo-European root *pezd-, "fart."

Sounds about right.

President Bush yesterday pointed to Abu Musab Zarqawi as the "best evidence" of a connection between al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein.

In so doing, he came to the defense of Vice President Cheney, who on Monday asserted that Saddam Hussein had "long-established ties" with al Qaeda.

But he also risked putting himself at odds with the Sept. 11 commission and the intelligence community.

Even though Zarqawi is actively terrorizing Iraq today, and does appear to have a relationship with al Qaeda, his association with Hussein has never been established.

Communications between Zarqawi and al Qaeda that Bush alluded to yesterday took place several months after Hussein was removed from power.

And a new report released this morning by the Sept. 11 commission declares that there is "no credible evidence" that Hussein's government collaborated with the al Qaeda terrorist network on any attacks on the United States, including the Sept. 11, 2001, hijackings.

And, of course, he'd be absolutely correct.

The ironic thing is that the Commission has only stated that no evidence of links exists between Iraq and Al Qaeda in regards to 9/11. Both chairs have publicly stated that links between the two DO exist.

There's
ample proof of Al-Qaeda / Iraq connections. (http://www.techcentralstation.com/092503F.html)

Bin Ladin also explored possible cooperation with Iraq during his time in Sudan, despite his opposition to Hussein's secular regime. Bin Ladin had in fact at one time sponsored anti-Saddam Islamists in Iraqi Kurdistan. The Sudanese, to protect their own ties with Iraq, reportedly persuaded Bin Ladin to cease this support and arranged for contacts between Iraq and al Qaeda. A senior Iraqi intelligence officer reportedly made three visits to Sudan, finally meeting Bin Ladin in 1994. Bin Ladin is said to have requested space to establish training camps, as well as assistance in procuring weapons, but Iraq apparently never responded. There have been reports that contacts between Iraq and al Qaeda also occurred after Bin Ladin had returned to Afghanistan, but they do not appear to have resulted in a collaborative relationship. Two senior Bin Ladin associates have adamantly denied that any ties existed between al Qaeda and Iraq. We have no credible evidence that Iraq and al Qaeda cooperated on attacks against the United States. Whether Bin Ladin and his organization had roles in the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center and the thwarted Manila plot to blow up a dozen U.S. commercial aircraft in 1995 remains a matter of substantial uncertainty.

This is the paragraph that dealt with Iraq in Staff Statement 15.

You've in the past criticized people for posting stuff from highly partisan places, and then you post something from TechCentralStation? What?

I'm sure they had some doosies leading up to the war, quote the White House about how easy it was for WMD's to be found, or how Iraq actually presented a threat to every American breathing today.

Did you really think that would last? You're better than that.

I really thought though that as a nation, at least WE could at least stay headstrong and united. I thought it would hark back to the spirit of 1941, remember Japan 'waking the sleeping dragon'? That all fell apart by when, Christmas '02?!?!? I've said it time and time again- WE NEED TO WAKE THE FUCK UP! September 11 roused us from our slumber, but we hit snooze and went right back to bed. I swear to God, I think it'll take and entire major city to be wiped off the map before anyone gives a shit.

I think most people assumed that the most visible and immediate acts of retribution after 9/11 would be the dismantling of Al-Queda and the capture or killing of bin Laden.

Neither of those has happened, and we're stuck fighting a war in Iraq. That's the equivalent of the US being attacked at Pearl Harbor, and then going to war with Italy as our primary target and with most of our military strength, fighting Japan as only a secondary "conflict," and basically ignoring Germany altogether.
