WASHINGTON - The Sept. 11 terror plot initially was designed to wreak even more destruction against the United States, with 10 planes simultaneously attacking targets on both the East and West coasts, the independent panel investigating the attacks reported Wednesday. (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5224681/)

And beyond that, further hijackings and bombings around the world that day, too.

Brutal.

Maybe I'm being stupid by saying this, but honestly I would like to know what the point is of all of this. Who cares what the comission said, they could have said it was 20 planes or 100, but in the end it doesn't change what happened on that day. So why establish a commission, which will probably finish its reports around 2040, to tell us about shit that didn't even happen? I'm not trying to be arrogant or an asshole about this, I just don't understand the concept of setting up a multi-million dollar commission so we can hear about what could have been.

If we don't figure out how they did it in the first place, or what they planned to do, how are we supposed to stop something similar happening down the line? This allows us to analyze how these guys plan and organize their strikes. To be blunt, we'd have to be morons to NOT be studying what happened, or what was supposed to have happened.

I hear ya Mojo, that does make some sense. But I feel like I've been hearing the same thing for the past two years. I mean honestly, should it really have taken over 2 years to find out HOW they did what they did. I mean, they took flight lessons boarded a plane with boxcutters, hijacked it, and flew said planes into buildings. You don't really hearmuch outside of that. I guess what you're saying about the analyitical part makes a lot of sense though, I just didn't get why it took so long and cost so much for the commission to tell us about hypotheticals.

I agree with you 100%, Mojo. But to have this current "commission" doing the investigation is ludiicrous!!! They shot themselves in the foot when they came to NYC with their agenda of laying blame in the wrong circles and leading the public away from the real reason that the WTC was annihilated....the terrorists did it....not us!!!!!!

I sympathize with what you're saying - I really believe that many of
the people who work in the White House or FBI or in NYC did the best
they could to prevent or react to 9/11, even if sometimes their
actions ended up hurting us. It's a lot easier to put the pieces
together now.

But that doesn't mean we shouldn't see if mistakes were made. The
report the Commission just released talks in detail about how the
terrorists carried out the attack. They've never said that terrorists
weren't responsible for the attacks. The Commission's job is to
determine how our policies and actions before and after the war could
have been improved on, and if that involves grilling the Mayor and
others, and questioning their actions, so be it.
